Despite the pouring rain, the crowds were still out for a ride on the Cable Cars on Christmas Day. The line may have been a bit shorter than usual, but not by much, especially considering that nothing else was open to draw people to Union Square.

Just kidding, SF, it was worth the sogginess...once I got home to the fireplace. :p

The Powell Street cable car turn-around was the only place I managed to find more than a couple people hanging around Union Square on Christmas Day. Despite the pouring rain, the line to ride them was, surprisingly, as long as ever. Hopefully the experience was worth it for everyone who braved the elements to get a ride.

Clearly we missed this party... By the time we passed through the Castro, people were greatly outnumbered by quietly swaying strands of toilet paper dangling from the Muni wires.

I came upon a line of street cars and buses backed up on Market on this evening. Someone told me a pedestrian had been hit by a car or bus ahead, but I couldn't confirm the story and never heard anymore about it. Hopefully that's a sign that everyone came out OK.

The Harvey Milk Photo Center and Muni Diaries are coming together to host a Muni-themed photo exhibition with an opening reception this Friday in honor of Muni's 100th anniversary.

Wandering the streets again tonight for the first time in a while, I found the crews wrapping up the weekend's work on the N-Judah tracks. I assume they must have been testing the tracks, as this train was very slowly creeping into the tunnel while workers on the train and on the tracks outside the tunnel were constantly radioing observations to each other. Here's hoping everything is cool for the Monday commute, for those N-Judah riders out there.

It's true, sometimes Muni takes a break from all the fun things it puts us through and actually helps people out, bringing light and serenity to the darkness and all that...then it quickly snaps out of it and returns to stranding passengers, naturally.
