King Fishers most often are found near bodies of shallow water. Unbelievably quick to dive from the tree to the water they are excellent fishermen, and very skiddish.

Thankfully this buck stood still enough for long enough to get this shot in. 1/50 is a long time. I spotted this 8 point in an open field and by the time I got close enough he had continued on his way into the forest.

Finally found a way to shot one of the Clouded Leopards in the Nashville Zoo without having to go through glass. There was an opening in the Bamboo so that only one chainlink was impeding the shot and DOF took care of that. I managed to get great expression and nice ambient lighting all at the same time. Definitely worth the drive.

Patience paid of with the lion, when I first got to the compound, he was mostly hidden behind a rock. After a while he worked his way to the top of a boulder.

Went to the Atlanta Zoo this week. This image was almost impossible, shot between a hole created by a "metal bamboo fence". Thus the green vignetting. Atlanta Zoo is a great place to visit, but many of the exhibits are photographically impossible or extremely difficult.

Female Eagle is coming into the nest at the Guntersville Dam. My main reason for posting this picture is to show how well the new 5D Mark III performs at higher ISO, this is ISO 2500 with very little correction. There is no way any of my past camera bodies could have pulled this off. Somewhere someone claimed there was a focus problem with IS on longer lenses, I am happy to say that is not the case in my experience.

One of the Eaglets at Guntersville taking off from the nesting tree for 2nd or 3rd time. Shows off the wonderful feather coloration on the underside of the wing.

All five Eagles in one shot. Male on top to left, three eaglets and female on bottom left. By this time I had seen all three eaglets off of the tree at the same time.

Skimming the Surface

This hawk hunts intently as it skims the surface of the field. He did go into the stalks, but I didn't see him come up with anything.

I have gone out to Limestone Bay a couple of times to see the different flocks of birds there. It always amazes me when the Snow Geese take off, so much energy and it appears they are going in every which direction. I wonder what triggers the take off, if you have a chance to go it is beautiful to watch even without a camera

White Pelicans

A flock of White Pelicans in the Everglades, if you look at the one second from the left. He has a bump about a third of the way up his beak. This means he is a male and the bump will become much more prominent during breeding season.
