You may have noticed I have taken a break from uploading my 365. This is primarily due to the fact I kept missing days. As a result I decided to pause the project for a month. During this time I still took a number of photos and I will dribble them on to flickr eventually. However, they are not going to be part of the project. Still, a month later I am now committing to take a photo a day for the rest of the project.

This was taken a month ago (just before the break) during a "rehearsal" for a live broadcast I was involved in.

p.s. I know this isn't in the normal 365 rules but this is my 365 so I make the rules.

Today I spent quite a while tidying my bedroom. This involved getting rid of things that I haven't touched in the past 5 years. I decided that if I haven't used them in 5 years, chances are I don't really need them around. So out they went.

This is my brother's Newton's cradle, which I sat on a mirror to give the nice reflection. If you look closely on the nearest ball you can just about work me hiding behind my camera.

Mr Muscle loves the jobs you hate!

If your following along at home you will notice I missed a day. That is due to me contracting a case of the dreaded Man Flu. I hate getting any kind of flu it really gets in the way of my lifestyle. Anyway this is me jumping in front of the camera and striking a pose.

Happy Valentine's Day. These are my lovely girlfriends feet apparently dangling against my bedroom wall. Ok so this shot has been flipped upside down post-production, but I think it looks better this way. When she comes round to my house wearing those socks how am I supposed to not take a photo of them?

There is a small collection of three of these guys sitting in my bedroom. I believe they used to glow in the dark, but now they just sit in the dust looking pretty. I am enjoying isolating objects using my snoot at the moment. There was no black backdrop being used here, I just had the exposure at a level where you can only see the items illuminated by the strobe.

What a day. Today I spent a number of hours in a server room sorting out networks. The moral of the day is never trust equipment that you aren't sure what it does. This shot is supposed to be a slight idea as to what most of the server room looked like: wires everywhere.

I hate coppers. They take up so much space and are worth next to nothing. I often empty my pockets of coppers in to nearby charity pots when they are around.

My bedroom door. Long day so this was shot just before turning in for the night. There was some strobist light being used in this shot but I can't remember what power it was set to or where exactly it was.

This photo took lots and lots of attempts. Self portraits are never easy and this one seemed to take a lot more attempts than usual. Half the problem was working in such a small space with props you really have to get back into exactly the same position every time you go to check to see how the shot looks. Too much to the left and you're half out of frame.

I promised myself today that I wouldn't end up just taking another shot of a random item from around my bedroom. So this is what happens when you leave your house at night armed with coloured gels that you're not afraid of using.

I tried using a number of different colours to light this can, to see what worked best and also, to see the effect of different gels whilst using it as the only light source. My favourite shots were those using a dark pink gel, this was probably influenced by the fact that it just started snowing so it made for some amazing bokeh snow.

Unfortunately it's a lot harder to work out what the exposure is doing when you are using strong coloured gels so all the pink gelled shots came out massively over exposed in some areas. I only realised that this is what was happening when I arrived home and looked at the histograms, otherwise I could have corrected it while I was out shooting.

It was quite a fun outing that taught me a lot about lighting using only 'effect' gels to light an object.

I bought this during a scout camp in America. We did a week home hospitality after the camp before heading home. This was bought while we were out shopping for their son at a sports shop. Left this shot to the last minute again so had to photograph something near by.

This is my new (christmas present) swiss army knife. This was taken after a long day at work just before I crawled into bed. It was taken using some sheets of copy paper and desk lights. I thought about getting my strobe out but couldn't be bothered with the effort of the set up.

Shot using a DIY snoot. This is a flag that I picked up in an airport while on a trip to America back in 2002. Being really slow at uploading photos at the moment and even worse commenting on other peoples photos. For that I am sorry. I will try and sort it out soon.

Taken after arriving home from a fun weekend out of town. Right at this point I am ridiculously tired and just want to collapse in a heap on the floor. There really are days when I wish I could just scrap the project and pick it up in a month. This is one of those days.

Today involved me going down to Southampton to catch up with some friends. Getting down was a nightmare due to an accident on the motorway. I decided it would be a good idea to get my stand and umbrella out in the pub to snap some shots. Isn't that what everyone does when they want to grab a quick photo?

Strobist: SB600, 1/16th power through umbrella, 2m from subject camera left. Full CTO gel to match ambient. Triggered with cactus v4 trigers.
