"The Narrows" Buffalo National River, Arkansas

Another view of the Nars or Narrows from the other direction. If you look closely you can see skull rock off in the distance to the left.

The Nars or Narrows is a very unique landform along the Buffalo National River. The remnants of a mountain, that once stood between and was eroded by the Buffalo River and Richland Creek. All that remains of the mountain is a narrow sliver of rock only a few feet wide.

The Nars or Narrows is a very unique landform along the Buffalo National River. The remnants of a mountain, that once stood between and was eroded by the Buffalo River and Richland Creek. All that remains of the mountain is a narrow sliver of rock only a few feet wide.

This barn is also near the old homestead at the parking area for the Buffalo River Trailhead south of Boxley. It was built by J. T. Edgmon about 1920 and stands across a lane from a spring which still provides water to area residents.

Falling Water Creek, Ozark National Forest, Arkansas

The falling water creek area has so many beautiful cascades and falls. It's very easy lost in this place (mentally) and spend hours soaking in their beauty.

"Her Majesty" Buffalo River Area, Arkansas

I found this beautiful Whitetail unexpectedly down the Centerpoint Trail in the Buffalo River Area of Arkansas. I came around a curve in the trail and she was standing there like this in the sun. She didn't even care that I was there. The doe just kept steadily walking down the trail in front of me and eventually crossed into the forest. The experience was definitely magical. It's interesting to note that in the 1920's the deer population in Arkansas had diminished to only around 200, but thanks to conservation efforts by the state the population is now estimated to be about 1 million making a meeting like this more possible.

"The Watcher" Pettigrew State Park, North Carolina

I really love this shot because of how the owl perfectly blends in with its surroundings. The day I took it I was driving around Phelps Lake in Pettigrew State Park trying to find the best spot for the coming sunset. When a park ranger driving in front of me suddenly did a u-turn and signaled me to stop. At the moment I thought maybe my sporadic driving (pulling in and out of every lookout) had made me seem suspicious or something, but then the ranger asked if I had been bird watching? He then showed me this barn owl up the tree. I was very surprised and couldn't express how grateful I was for his random act of kindness. People and nature never cease to amaze me.

The glory whole is one of our states most popular and unique waterfalls but here recently I haven't been able to see it flowing. So after the recent rain I made the little hike down and although still not at its full potential there was still enough of a spray to get some nice rainbows!

On a chilly March morning after a few days of rain I made my way to the Upper Buffalo Wilderness of Arkansas. I was eager to photograph a few of the many waterfalls in the state; however, one of the wonderful things about photography and exploring the outdoors in general is that you never know what nature may present to you. In this case it was a herd of nearly 70 Elk in the fields of Boxley Valley. At that moment my plans went out the window and I spent the morning photographing these incredible animals. The highlight shown here was seeing this precious interaction between a spike yearling and majestic bull.
