Hundreds of British service personnel took part in a silent parade to mark Remembrance Sunday at Lashkar Gah.
Personnel from all parts of the Army, the Navy and the Royal Air Force fell silent to mark 11am at the British base at Lashkar Gah, Helmand province.
The military listened to a service of Remembrance from padre Father Ian Stevenson before officers saluted during the Last Post.
On Saturday June 26 2010 Cardiff hosted the Armed Forces Day national event in the presence of TRH's Prince Charles and the Duchess of of Cornwall.

The event is only the second of its kind to be held in the UK and was the first time Wales had played host.

The day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show their support of the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, and from veterans to
cadets.

TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall led the parade from Cardiff Castle to the bay.

A Royal Marine bows his head during a Remembrance Day service at Main Operating Base Price in Helmand, Afghanistan.

40 Commando Royal Marines have marked Remembrance Day with a solemn service in Afghanistan.

The service was especially poignant as 40 Commando RM, which encompasses the 1st Battilion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, have lost 4 members in previous weeks.

The service was held in front of the memorial to the fallen at Main Operating Base PRICE, where the Marines have been based since September. The memorial contains the names of all the British and Danish soldiers who have lost their lives in the Nahr e Saraj district since 2010.

40 Commando Royal Marines have been based in the Nahr e Saraj district of Central Helmand, since the start of September.

Last year, the Unit marked Remembrance Day with a service in chilly weather atop the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

Servicemen and women take part in a Remembrance Day service onboard HMS Bulwark in the Mediterranean Sea.

HMS Bulwark is taking part in Cougar, a three month deployment to the Mediterranean as part of the United Kingdom's Response Force Task Group, exercising with key allies. Exercises will include Corsican Lion, which will test the maritime element of the UK-French Combined Joined Expeditionary Force (CJEF), and exercise Albanian Lion which will provide superb faculties for the Lead Commando Group to train with Albanian forces, consolidating our relationship.

Despite being in full flow of an exercise, HMS Bulwark took a short pause to remember the members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives in the line of duty. A ceremony was held on the flight deck and attended by the ship's company and Embarked Military Force.
Afghan National Army Soldier Wearing a Poppy at a Remembrance Service in Afghanistan

A soldier of the Afghan National Army (ANA) wears a poppy out of respect for Remembrance Day and his own fallen comrades.

During the one day interlude between Armistice and Remembrance Sunday, Afghan and British soldiers set aside differences in nationality, creed, and language in a moment of common respect for those that that have laid down their lives in a search for peace.

In the first joint parade of its kind in Afghanistan, at Shorabak Camp, near Camp Bastian, troops from both the Afghan National Army and the UK’s 2 Rifles stood shoulder-to-shoulder in a shared mark of respect for those who have given their lives in conflict.

On every other day 2 Rifles, which form the Brigade Advisory Group, is responsible for training and mentoring the Afghan Army and is focused firmly on the future, a future in Afghanistan that is being shaped by the continued development of their Armed Services.

However, during 2-minutes silence both Afghans and British alike, allowed themselves to reflect on the past, to pay tribute to their fallen friends and colleagues and to reflect on those who have gone before them.

The Cenotaph in London is pictured surrounded by wreaths of poppies following the Remembrance Day Parade in 2010.

The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London has played host to the Remembrance Service for the past nine decades.

Originally intended as a small part of the Peace Day events of July 1919, The Cenotaph was designed and built by Edwin Lutyens at the request of the then Prime Minister Lloyd George

The Cenotaph - which literally means Empty Tomb in Greek - was initially a wood and plaster construction intended for the first anniversary of the Armistice in 1919. At its unveiling the base of the monument was spontaneously covered in wreaths to the dead and missing from The Great War. Such was the extent of public enthusiasm for the construction it was decided that The Cenotaph should become a permanent and lasting memorial.

The Cenotaph, made from Portland stone, was unveiled in 1920. The inscription reads simply "The Glorious Dead".
