I have just returned from a trip to UK and mainland Europe and only now just got the chance to go through my photos starting with a spring trip to Leeds Castle in Kent. I think I had just got the Barnacle Geese wandering in at the right time too. I'll upload more photos of Kent this week.

While waiting for my walking group, I spotted this female juvenile Superb Fairy Wren tagging along with its mother at Catherine Hill Bay. Seems this baby just could not leave the mother's side. Had to go back to my old 40D because the group was going to go on a long walk around the jetty and the washing area for most of the day.

Sorry for the lack of updates. A relative of ours passed away a week ago and I've had computer problems so no time for updates. I think this photo of a Red Wattlebird singing in the early morning at Summer Hill is appropriate for such a solemn event. We should always hold our head up high...

Back to Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, NSW with Red-Browed Firetails sitting undecidedly on a fence. Been busy lately so haven't taken many photos but I will try soon.

Australian or Nankeen Kestrel on a rock outcrop in the outskirts of the historic Blast Furnace Park in Lithgow, Central NSW. At only about a foot in length, they are our smallest and probably the most wariest birds of prey. This one flew away as I got closer.

Willie Wagtail happy to pose for the camera at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, Central NSW, Australia. Despite the name, this bird is really a fantail and the largest one in Australia.

Seeing less and less house sparrows than in the past as they seem to be restricting to nature reserves or any other quiet corner of Sydney. So I decided to get a shot of one just in case. House Sparrow on lookout at Dee Why Lagoon Nature Reserve.

A New Holland Honeyeater with a meal flies over to the tree where I'm standing at in Dee Why Lagoon Nature Reserve in Sydney Australia. Contrary to the shot, these are actually tiny birds only slightly bigger than a sparrow (see the comment with sparrow sitting next to honeyeater)

Silvereye glaring back at the camera in one of the trees at Dee Why Lagoon Nature Reserve, Sydney NSW. Luckily the bird headed to the tree I was standing at for the shot and not the other way round!

Haven't had much opportunity getting photos so have settled with this shot of a Meadow Argus butterfly warming its wings on a sunny patch at the nature reserve in Blackman Park Lane Cove River National Park. Taken with my macro lens and did a bit of work with the shadow contrast from the harsh morning sun.

Yellow Admiral butterfly feeds for a few seconds on a tea tree at the nature reserve near Lane Cove River National Park. This butterfly did not stay long, flying off to hide in the bush.

Jumping spider about to hide under the leaf on our mini citrus tree. Just wish I could see more of these cute microscopic spiders as they are hard to find and hide when disturbed.

Common Brown Ringlet Butterfly sunning itself on a small stick lying on the trail at Blackman Park near Lane Cove River National Park. Another active butterfly that did not stay long for a shot.

Camera-shy Monarch

I still could not get close enough to these Monarch Butterflies at Lane Cove River in Sydney, NSW. They are like tiny birds and flee at the slightest sense of movement thus had to use my telephoto lens. Also changed the hue and saturation of the background in photoshop to enhance the butterfly.

Buff-rumped Thornbill foraging in a cypress tree at Dubbo Western Plains Zoo in Central NSW. The tiny specks around the bird's head are pollen grains coming off the flowers of the cypress tree.

Family issues has made life restless for me recently. Been hard to make any updates or reciprocate comments, but I am determined to catch up. Posting an old shot of a Monarch Butterfly near Lane Cove River National Park which just could not keep still and kept flying away as I approached it. I've got to really try and take more butterfly shots now that the weather is warmer
