Well, the sun came out, once in awhile....... in between scattered snow flurries....... Yesterday the sun finally came out in the afternoon, so I went looking for a disused train track I'd been hearing about. Supposed to be lots of birds there, people said. I'd tried to find this place before, and ended up in a parking lot full of transport trucks with an unfriendly dog barking at me. This time, I used Google Maps to find the right road to turn off on, just past the springs factory and before the overpass on Romeo Street. On the left side of the street was a huge feed mill, with flocks of pigeons flying overhead and perching on the top of the mill. As I'd been promised hawks and blue jays, the pigeons were a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, I kept walking, until the road turned into a laneway and then up ahead was someone's house. However, just before the gate which defined the property line was a snowmobile track veering off towards what must have been the remains of the defunct railway line. Undaunted by sinking into snow halfway to my knees, I explored enough to determine that the trail had definite potential for a good hike once the snow is mostly melted. Plus I did spot some American Tree Sparrows, one crow, and some wild turkey tracks, and so return I shall, anon (as we say in Stratford).
