Back from India! Slightly jet lagged but none the worse for wear. I had a really great month of traveling where I saw lots of amazing things, met tons of people, Careened down busy streets in auto rickshaws, inhaled lots of pollution, and stuffed myself with delicious Indian food.

I captured this panorama from a hill station of Nainital in Uttarakhand. I didn't think I was actually going to get the chance to see the Himalaya. I was in Uttarakhand for 6 days, and most of the time the mountains were completely obscured by clouds. The morning of my final day the sky opened up to reveal these incredible mountains. This panorama was 15 images captured in portrait and stitched together with Hugin. Best viewed large!

summit lake trails

This is the first of several star trails I took while camped in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Unfortunately work has been getting in the way of my processing/flickring time and posting images has been slow going this week! The Lake (more like a pond) is North summit Lake and was directly behind my campsite.

The foreground was taken right around sunset and I began shooting the exposures for the trails shortly thereafter. This image proved to be a fair degree more difficult to assemble then my other startrails as it required substantial judicious use of masking in photoshop.

35 exposures at 3 minutes each for the trails. ISO 500

I just returned from a week long trip to Lassen Volcanic national park in Northern California. We had a great time hiking and camping. I got to hike my first Volcano and spent copious amounts of time hiking to and swimming in many picturesque mountain lakes. I was out of cell phone and email contact the entire week, so now there is lots of catching up to do!

This image was taken on a trail leading from Cold Boiling Lake to a sulfurous hotsprings area called bumpass hell.

This one is probably a bit boring, but I liked the tones and reflections in the water. I took this picture on the way back from a short hike to Shadow Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park. An Amazing short hike it was! The trail descended for about half a mile to a beautiful small lake called terrace lake, and then continued on this this lake about 2/10ths of a mile further. Shadow lake was absolutely beautiful, peaceful and serene with some great views Lassen Peak. Since we were here on a Wednesday we had the entire lake to ourselves.

Full moon rising over the distant mountains. This was taken during our new years camping trip to the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. December 31, 2009 was distinguished by the rising of the 13th full moon of 2009, an event happening every 2-3 years.
