Image Description: "The Manager's residence and the Boarding-house on the scientific farm mentioned in the previous paragraph. On this farm there is flowing well and large reservoir about two hundred feet in circumference, into which the water flows continuously.

On this farm the soil is similar to that in the vicinity of Winnipeg."

Image Description: "This picture shows the boys in their tents writing home and telling their parents what they think of the camp.

All the accommodation that is provided for the boys is a tent and some straw; they bring with them their own blankets.

When these fellows are questioned as to how they like the camp they said there was only one fault and that was that it did not last long enough.

In this camp there was sixty-four boys, but the county Superintendent said that had the camp been held two weeks earlier, they would had doubled this amount; as haying had started and boys were required at home."

Image Description: "This boy is a typical farmer. He maintains that he will win the prize if he has to spend all his holidays hoeing out the weeds. At the present time with the cultivation he has given it his corn is quite twelve inches taller than his fathers. He was too busy hoeing weeds to attend the Club meeting, for he said it might rain that night and he could not hoe for a week or so and the weeds would get ahead of him."

Image Description: "The mess tent with Mr. Trott, Miss Ratalaffe and Governor Hanna's wife in the foreground. Miss Ratalaffe is one of the Extension Service Home Economic demonstrators, who takes charge of the cooking for the boys. She has one lady assistant and the boys are then dealt off in squads of ten each, each squad helping to carry water, pare potatoes, prepare vegetables and wash dishes for one day."

Image Description: "The boys begin work by attending lectures and practical demonstrations at 7.40 in the morning. They have lectures on different farming operations, and by prominent men on popular subjects, as well as demonstrations in rope splicing, halter making, etc.

The picture here shows Mr. Peterson, the Superintendent of the Mandan Experimental and Forestry Station, showing the boys how to plant shelter belts and explaining to them how they may secure the trees from the Forestry Station."

Image Description: "Philip Chandler is also in the hog raising contest. He has a nice yearling sow and a litter of eight pigs. His greatest difficulty is in having a pen built for his pigs, as up to the present he has had to allow them to run in the same pasture with his fathers, weighing the whole amount of feed fed the hogs estimating the portion eaten by his nine."

Image Description: "Leslie Richardson's garden right in the town of Hunter. Leslie was away on his holiday but his invalid father was so interested in the boy's work that he walked half a block to show us how well Leslie was getting along with the garden.

In this case the boy's garden was much better than his parents"

Hazel Stewart's Garden

Image Description: "Hazel Stewart would not pull a weed out of the garden until she became a contestant in the good garden and canning competition. Even then she would not work in the garden unless her father or mother were out hoeing in the regular kitchen garden. As the vegetables grew, she became very interested and when visited had sold quite a quantity of radishes and lettuce, and now maintains that she will have a garden every year."

Farm Boys' Camp

Image Description: "In many counties they hold what is known as 'Farm Boys' Camps and Hikes.' The difference between the camp and a hike is that in the latter the boys move from farm to farm and have a cook caboose that follows them up and provides the meals wherever they happen to be. Some have also wagons bringing along tents which are pitched for the night, but in some places they plan to sleep in the barn.

This picture shows a boys' camp at Mandan. This camp lasts for ten days. The boys are selected by the school teacher through the county Superintendent. Any boy who wishes to pay $5.00 and is between the ages of twelve and eighteen may come. The picture shows them lining up and marching to the mess tent. To the right may be seen Mr. Palmer, the publicity man for the North Dakota Agriculture college, who had charge of the camp. Assisting him were the County Superintendent and County Agent."

Image Description: "Miss Sullivan, the State Leader, and Mr. Wolff, the Club Superintendent, in one of the Boys' gardens on the farm.

The Club leader visits as many of the clubs as possible and spends some time inspecting the gardens and plots of the Club Members, so that she many have first-hand information as to the success of different Contests.

Mr. Wolff, the Club Superintendent, visits the members conducting the contests in his Club quite frequently. He finds this very necessary as the children have a tendency to become discouraged in their work unless somebody visits them and gives them a word of encouragement.

When visiting this garden the boy told us that he was going to drop the work in garden because nobody came to look at it."

Reverend Mr. Wolff - Hunter, ND

Image Description: "The Reverend Mr. Wolff is the Presbyterian Minister in the town of Hunter. He is an energetic man and looks to the material as well as spiritual uplift of his people. When the Boys' and Girls' Club was organized at Hunter, he was appointed club Superintendent, and, due to his interest and enthusiasm, the Hunter club is one of the best in the State. He was assistant club superintendents who have charge of the different contests. In this club they are using the four State wide contests: 1. Hog Raising; 2. Acre Yield Corn; 3. Garden and Canning; 4. Sewing
