Snowdon Horseshoe from a frozen Llynnau Mymbyr

A rise at 03:45 for a 3 hour drive to get to Llynnau Mymbyr for sunrise as the forecast was for no wind and a bit of snow in the mountains. I expected great reflections on the lake with a preconceived vision of a shot I have wanted for two years. At -7 on arrival though the lake was frozen and your traditional reflections went out the window. Not complaining though and glad to have made the choice to head over early as Welsh weather played its usual card and this was the only light we saw for four days.

Tryfan Waterfall

It would seem everytime I go to Snowdonia I have to visit this location. I've been trying to nail it since my first attempt below as the first time I visited I didn't own any filters at the time and ever since the conditions have never been quite the same.

Anyway, taking this shot I kept trying the portrait composition again like below and was getting frustrated by the tree on the left which didn't ever bother me before.

So I took a step back, put the SWA angle on and took this shot. Wasn't sure about the tree being in the middle but there was nothing to be done except get the chainsaw out. However I think the flow of water and Tryfan makes up for it.

I also usually like to vision an image before taking it but have to admit I didn;'t picture this in B+W but upon opening on the pc it sort of already had a sepia look and it stood out to me and instantly screamed this processing.

Another shot from Llynnau Mymbyr (I've now learnt to spell that from memory rather than googling every time!) that seems to be going down well on Facebook.

For me I felt while Snowdon looks great with all the pink light and detail I was a little disappointed with the dark foreground even though I am pleased with the general composition.
