It has been a while. Went out shooting with Jeff last weekend and saw this gem sitting there. Perfect for TTT, and perfect for St. Patrick's Day I thought. And by the looks of it,
some eager Chicagoan already got a head start on the upcoming festivities!

I will post a few of my vacation shots while on hiatus. Spent a week in Italy and a week in Switzerland.

I saw this guy hanging out the window in Bellagio, on Lake Como, while I was waiting for a ferry. Right after I got off this shot, he looked straight down at me from his window and flipped me off, the disappeared.

Timing is everything!

The woods were abuzz. It was that time of the year. Heavy rain gave way to unbearable heat. So they came. Came in swarms. Came all at once. Came with a vengeance.

It was a race against time. One man to save us all. Save us all from the scourge that fell upon the woods and made mankind's mission miserable. The Mosquito Whipper!

Coming to a theater near you soon!

Wow, it's now been six weeks ago or so that Maria challenged me to "80's Movie" for our SP challenge. I was stomped. Truly no idea. Was thinking Blues Brothers, Top Gun or something else along those lines. Then Indiana Jones. Wasn't sure about copyright infringements for using those names, though. So I made up my own 80's movie based on the over-the-top action and drama of those days, loosely based on Indy and his adventures.

Anyhow, enjoy. Oh, and since we were doing movies, check out my trailer to the movie:

Wouldn't it be great if there was such a thing as a wishing well? To whisper your wishes into a body of water and have some sort of spirit make them come true. Or if there was a magical contraption allowing you to see the future, to see what might be, and to reflect on the past, the things that once were, to correct mistakes? But in the end, it's all about what you want to see, what you want to project for yourself. Realizing your visions from those reflections, I reckon, would truly be the creation of your very own wishing well.

This is week #14 of 52 SP's in Cliches. This week I challenged Ria to reflect. To take an SP using reflections without resorting to a mirror, water, or glass. So we had to get creative. And creative we got, check out Ria's interpretation here.

And no, I did not use any of the materials above. Curious to see who will guess correctly what I am looking thru here.

BTW, we will be taking a 3 week break. I will leave for vacation end of next week and will likely not be able to post challenges. The fun will resume on July 16th, Hollywood-style!

Friday Night Dinner

I love Friday night dinners. That's the day we always go out as a family to ring in the weekend. The only time I dread going out is when we feel like having sushi. I love sushi, don't get me wrong. But as you can see, only the freshest fish will do for my family.

I just hate bringing towels and a change of clothes to dinner.

This is week #13 of 52 SP's in Cliches. This week Ria challenged me to "submerge". Get your feet wet, we are going under water, she said. Who am I to argue? I love water. Always loved swimming, love scuba diving, love sushi. Perfect. Let's have some fun, I say, and combine the best of all worlds. I hope you enjoyed your Friday night dinner, and have a Happy Cliche Saturday to boot!

Dear Law Enforcement Officer:

I want you to know that I did not break any laws in the making of this photograph. Really. I swear. I just felt like reliving one of my past times when I was younger (too many moons ago to count). The wall to my right was empty, what can I say? It needed some color. So why not tag it, leave my mark, no harm done, right? It's not like the weeds growing up the wall were particularly attractive.

This is week #12 of 52 SP's in Cliches. This week I challenged Ria to relive her youth. We have all done some crazy stuff when we were young, rebelled a little, didn't we? Well, maybe some more than others, and eventually we all grew up. How does the saying go? If you are not a rebel at age 20 you have no heart, if you are still a rebel at age 30 you have no brain. Not sure that I fully agree with giving up that rebel inside you, but this saying has always kind of stuck with me. Reminds me that sooner or later you have to start acting like a grown up. Anyhow, yes, I did my share of graffiti in my teens, did stupid things, got in trouble, etc., etc., etc.

BUT, though I have almost outgrown the rebel in me in the 30 years since, this wall was just too tempting. And a good friend inspired me to put up some graffiti, leave my mark so to speak. Thank you, good friend!

All in Photoshop, of course, I swear, Mr. Law Enforcement Officer, I do swear...

Maxell Man 2011: Less Hair, More Volume, Still Blown Away

Thirty years later, a lot has changed. No more tapes, let alone vinyl. No more record players or Walkman. Tunes come from the Internet, not a store. No more full-sized album cover artwork, no inserts with lyrics, no wall shelves filled with music, no boxes with tape compilations. Just a little iPod with a lot more "albums" than I would have been able to transport in my first car's trunk back then.

But one thing remains: I am still cranking up the volume to 11!

This is week #11 of 52 SP's in Cliches. This week my partner in crime Ria challenged me to "Musica". Wow. Where to begin. Obvious choices included the recreation of cult album covers. But couldn't find any that fit me. So then I remembered the iconic Maxell Man. Anyone born before MP3 was invented knows him. And if you don't remember, he's in my comment below. What an iconic image of the times it was. So was the breaking glass, remember? Is it real or is it Memorex? And for more history, go here. I couldn't find much about the photographer, Steigman, but I have to tell you, after doing in digital what he had to have done in the darkroom... Wow! He was one fantastic talent.

This one will go into the Music Cliche Hunt thread. Wish there was an iconic photo copycat thread.

What is it about our eyes? An honest look into one's eye always seems to last an eternity. As if time freezes. No words. No sounds. No motion. The longest reflection. A moment of truth.

Pretty cliche heavy philosophical stuff, eh? Well, yes, of course, what do you expect? It is Cliche Saturday after all. And this sounded a lot more profound than my original title: "Hell, I bought ice cream at the store and it is now sitting in the trunk of my car. Hope it won't melt while I am running out to get my Latte. Hmmm, or should I just turn around? Neah, let it melt, I need my coffee." That was my first choice for a title, really. Feel free to make up your own title in the comments section if you like neither.

BUT, there is no motion blur scavenger hunt thread!!! What gives, Jordy? Damn, just realized there's no "heavy philosophical crap" cliche thread either! Now really, Jordy, what is your problem???

This is week #10 of 52 SP's in Cliches. I challenged Ria to suspend time, and I learned a bit about myself too while doing it. Like that it is a lot of fun to stand in a stream of people who have no idea what you are doing, and how easy it is to set up selfies in public and hide in plain sight. Until you realize that someone you know from work is standing 20 feet away from you chatting. Time really stood still at that moment. Yes, and that's also the moment when you grab the camera and tripod and run like hell...

It is never easy to get the answer you are looking for; it requires determination: Pick plenty of flowers, find a quiet spot, and take your time. And most importantly, always make sure not all the flowers have an even number of petals...

Week #9 of 52 SPs in Cliches. This time around Ria challenged me to find my "feminine side" and to say it with flowers. I guess she got tired of me boozing it up in hotel bars and then running around all puffed up in a billowing coat!!! But, girls, you all should already know that boys pull on pigtails, squash bugs, and generally enjoy destructive activities. So sorry about the tulips, Ria, my other chromosome made me do it...

A walk, hand in hand, along the sandy beach. Waves crashing. A beautiful sunset. The wrapper for two cigarillos is all that remained. I hope it was worth it, 'cuz there really aren't many good reasons for littering on the beach.

Another architectural view of Chicago, this time the Burnham Center across from City Hall. Unique at the time, the architects at Burnham added windows in this building's corners to allow for more light.
