I checked out Sabbaday Falls the other day, since the lighting seemed to be cooperative. The snow is still deep there, I was deep in it trying to back up enough to fill this in. I am starting to desire a wide lens. My 24-70 isn't wide enough. First I want a longer lens, 400mm or 500mm, but now maybe not ....

Cannon Cliffs Fog

This is one of a small series of this fog rolling over Cannon Mtn or the Cannon Balls and/or Cannon Cliffs as they are called. The atmosphere in this notch changes dramatically within hours. However this fog must have rolled all day. This was what it looked like as I drove up midday. This was one photo.

After hiking up the Falling Waters Trail and you reach Little Haystack, this is the view you see. Looking Northwest over Agony Ridge and Cannon Cliffs. This is where you rest, change your clothes and eat some more. Then you look to your right to see where you go next ......

Echo Lake and part of Cannon Mtn in autumn. Taken from Artist's Bluff in Franconia Notch before sunrise. I was there to catch the sun as it was rising, but as usual the clouds insisted on being in the way, which actually made the tree colors pop.

Mt Moosilauke and Mt Blue over Beaver Brook Pond

I am not sure which is which, but the map says both, so any corrections are welcomed.
Mt Moosilauke is 4800 ft, just under Mt Lafayette and Mt Liberty. I am really enjoying hiking although my knees hate it. I need to start taking a smaller (lighter) lens for hiking, my 24-70L 2.8 adds too much weight to a backpack.

I am getting more fond of landscape photography and am coming to the realization that I want a wide angle lens, along with a longer lens to capture wildlife. ... this is quite the forever expanding, expensive hobby. I say this because I could not back up anymore, I couldn't get lower to the ground, and I could barely get the top of the mtn in the view. So it is squished, I look at this and I feel like it's claustrophic photo time.

I climbed this last week to capture the waterfalls. Holy steep hiking and with a 25 lb pack on. It wasn't quite as tough as hiking the Falling Waters Trail on Little Haystack, and then on to Lafayette, but the hiking down still caused my knees to swell.

This was the last photo of the day's journey. The reason this was the last photo, was because I got hungry. For the people that know me, that is nothing special, for those of you that have not traveled with me, I am ALWAYS hungry and always eating. Well I stopped to pick up something to eat, because I already ate all of the food I brought with me, see?? and discovered I didn't have my license, cash nor credit card. It was a good thing I was driving new economy suv vs the large gas guzzler I used to drive or else I might have been walking also ....and searching for berries. Needless to say I drove straight home.

This photo was taken in the high sunshine. I know, obviously right ? I used a ND10 filter and a polarizer. I like my first shot of this better, funny thing, I usually do like my first shots but don't seem to replicate them once I set up my tripod and put some thought into it. I think I need to be standing instead of squatting.

Yup ...this is where you hike to next. Doesn't look that bad, .....except you don't realize that is not Lafayette until you crest it and then you see that it is only Lincoln and how much further you still have to hike to reach Lafayette..
This is a view of Mt Lincoln from Little Haystack. That is the next leg of hiking the Franconia Ridge from the Falling Waters Trail.

Willey Pond is a beautiful pond that sits between the mountain ridges along Rte 302 in the Crawford Notch of the White Mountains of NH. It is a busy and well visited pond with lots of ducks for entertainment. This bridge lets you access the other side of the pond.

This is one of my favorite places.. A pond in Campton, NH that is surrounded by small mountains.
This morning it was foggy, the young trees had turned along with the bushes on the embankment, and the sun highlighted their vibrant colors.

We had climbed the Franconia Ridge and were sitting atop Mt Lafayette. We watched this glider climb the thermals until it soared over us. We could hear the whisper of the wind as it flew by. It was the perfect ending to long climb. My husband flies Ultralights so it was true thrill to watch him maneuver the updrafts. My husband took this one with his camera. I love it. Its simple and magical.

Again, some places never get boring. The Basin in Franconia Notch, NH, is that place for me. The weather here in the mountains is it's own entity, it changes hourly and sometimes drastically. I can see this notch from my home (25 minutes away) and it is covered in clouds more than not. This day was foggy and misty. I like to chase the fog, although I find it adds more noise to the photos than I like.
