As I have mentioned, the drive from Da Nang to Hue is filled with a few spectacular views. The views though are often hazy because of the clouds. I fell in love with this little fishing village nestled in between a beach and the mountains. Even the man made bridge didn't distract from its appeal.

Two of my favorite countries treasure the lotus flower, Egypt and Vietnam. For that matter, all of Asia gives much meaning to this flower.
Such a sight it is, growing up from the murky water of a pond. When I arrived in Hoi An, this perfect bloom was in one of the ponds on the hotel grounds. I was able to enjoy its full beauty for about a day.

Good Fortune to You

TET was just over in Saigon and a few wonderful flowers remained. The lotus flower has significant messages or meanings in various religions. Buddhism is still a dominate religion in Vietnam and since it was the beginning of their New Year I had the good fortune of seeing several lotus flowers through out my trip.

"clicking" who is a very skilled photographer who lives in HCMC just acknowledged this image and I am flattered as he is one of Flickr"s best and this is his home turf. See his work at : www.flickr.com/photos/48814374@N00/

For some reason, this flower generated as much controversy as the Vietnam War did in the USA. I originally processed the image more than I usually do and one group said that it was a a fake and removed it from their group. I then proceeded to remove myself from that group permanently!

This flower was growing in the area around the Ho Chi Minh statue with the child as were other locus flowers. If it isn't real then it certainly fooled me and others. The gardens in Vietnam that are for public display are all very well tended and the flowers are all in their prime.

I will not be adding this picture to any more groups. I don't want to deal with the controversy. Had enough of that when I returned from the war to an angry and hostile nation.

I still remember the several hours I spent drifting along the Iraawaddy River in Myanmar taking in every precious change of the color of the sky and the water at sunset. These folks were doing the same thing. The rivers of Asia are the life line of the countries in Asia. The Irrawaddy seemed to be quite clean and was not as busy as the Mekong making for a peaceful journey in the late evening.

I will be leaving later today for Vietnam. I expect to come back with pictures of the lush green landscape and hopefully the cherry blossoms will still be blooming in Dalat. In my opinion some of the best photographers on Flickr are from Vietnam so I will have to be very creative to capture anything that rivals their daily additions to Flickr. What a challenge.

If I haven't returned your special comments, I will when I return. Please accept my thank you! Don't want to miss that ride out to the airport.

We have been on safari for a very long time now and thank you for your patience as I shared all of my fond memories of the African animals.

We have a lovely zoo here and they try their best to make the animals comfortable, but other animals exist in "the wild" in San Diego. Many of you remember Sammy who dwells on the cliffs of La Jolla overlooking the Pacific Ocean. He can be found in the ice plant and flowers and appears only when someone is quiet and patient.. He loves to pose as i found out. He is such a charmer and he is never out of my mind,

At the end of the safari, we stayed at a new lodge close to the Crater. It is a lovely place with lovely views like this one. Unfortunately, they need to find a good cook who understands that food should be hot before it is served. It has still not rained much but the clouds in the sky were always so beautiful!

I just couldn't leave Tanzania for more traditional images. I left there a month ago, but I am still there. Still have a good number of images to sort through.
The Charm of Pagan [Explored]

The trip I took to Burma was so memorable. Pictures tell the story of a country rich in history that has been preserved. The way of life is slow in comparison to many of the other countries in Asia and let's hope that continues as Burma reintroduces itself to the world.

This shot was taken on one of the many dirt roads that connect the hundreds of ancient pagodas in Pagan (Bagan).

Finally Flowers [Explored]

The Spirit of the World posted a photo:

You haven't seen any flowers in my stream for a long time. That is because there are not any flowers in the wonderful and wild areas of Tanzania where the animals roam. I have to say that I didn't miss them until we checked in at the lodge at the end of the safari and I saw their garden.

I struck up a conversation with the manager and told him that the gardens reminded me of the one in the middle of Kandy. He then told me that he was from Kandy Sri Lanka. That's what I love about travel. The coincidences and the way the world is truly connected.

I would welcome the name of these flowers. Flickr is so wonderful. Nancy Armstrong Thomson told me they looked like cosmos to her and when I looked up the flower I think she is right. Thanks Nancy! www.flickr.com/photos/62741934@N04/

Well, I doubt that anyone can answer that, but this expression is not the one I have seen on the faces of lions who are hunting, but of course it is the females who do the hunting. This male lion had just mated with a female who was close by.
