I've had these maple trees( at least I think they are maples) in my backyard for several years now and every Fall I trim them, so as to avoid them completely overtaking my yard. I trim them quite a bit, but they are certainly indestructible and once again this year the leafs are starting to reappear!. I'll trim them again this Fall and my wife and I will have the same conversation about how it maybe time to cut them down completely...Kind of a ritual I suppose, to mark the changing of the seasons. More than likely though the next spring the process of rejuvenation will start again:) That's what Spring is about after all..

Not the greatest background for this one and I know it's a pretty common bird! I've been desperately trying to attract other species of birds at my feeders besides Juncos and crows with little success so despite the background I was delighted to see this American Goldfinch( I think) at my my feeder so I grabbed my camera and clicked away!

Fort Amherst, NL, Canada

For whatever reason the color seemed to attract me to this one. This is a winch that was installed in 1950 in Fort Amherst which is at at the entrance to the harbor and the location of a lighthouse. This winch was used to haul materials up from the harbor for the construction of the lighthouse and subsequently for supplies like coal and other materials. An important piece of equipment in its' day.

It was a very cold day with the wind fairly gusty at the entrance to the harbor. Conditions being somewhat unpleasant this shot presented itself and I wasted little time shooting a few frames:)

Between the mid-1950s and the early 1970s, the Newfoundland government.relocated thirty thousand people to larger villages and towns. A good policy or a bad policy, I always find this image so powerful. Lyrics forom the song Outport People always come to mind for me, "Cause if he's unwillingly forced to decide,
He'll move without leaving and never arrive"....I wish I could give credit to the photographer but sadly I could not find out who he/she was

Every year in spring or early summer, caplin, a small saltwater fish, roll in to the shores in Middle Cove, just outside St. John's..They " roll in" over a two or three weeks and people go there to catch them. They use a net or sometimes just pick them up on the beach. A tasty white fish they are often fried and enjoyed by many! Others use them in Gardens as fertilizer! Other folks just go out and enjoy a nice evening with their families in what has been a local tradition for many years. This shot was taken last year in July!
