Very atmospheric photo altogether taken by Elinor Wiltshire at Dublin's Marshalsea Barracks.

Because of Little Dorrit, Marshalsea conjures up the idea of a debtors' prison for me. Is that what it originally was, does anyone know, even if it was an ex-Barracks by the time this was taken in 1969?
XXI OCTOBER MDCCCV

We've seen shots of Nelson's Pillar before, but usually in the distance or in a state of chassis following its blowing up in March 1966, so I was delighted to find this fine view of it in our Eason Collection.

This photo also gives us a joyous assortment of trams - the no. 8 to Dalkey; the no. 29 to Fairview; the no. 20 to Rialto Bridge; and I think the no. 3 to Westland Row and Ringsend; and a car with reg. no. IK 9729.

There's also an infuriatingly obscured news poster which seems to be screaming about "Startling Evidence"!
Date: Circa 1927?

It's killing me that I can't read the detail on the posters outside the Rotunda Round Room, but thought you might like this one in any case...
I think that this photograph captures the very final stages of its construction, just before opening?!
P.S. On Monday, 20 March 1865 (148 years ago), our very own William Lawrence was announcing the opening of his new Photographic Studio on the first floor of 7 Upper Sackville Street - just down the street near Nelson's Pillar!
Plus, is that a Landau anyone? Thinking it's time we learnt to tell our Landaus from our Broughams...

Really unusual for us to find a named person in our Lawrence Collection photographs, but here is Mr Davy Stephens.
Weir on the River Dodder below Orwell Bridge

National Library of Ireland on The Commons posted a photo:

This snowy and icy scene from Rathgar in Dublin was also requested by Niall McAuley as he thinks he used to play around this area as a child.

Wondered if perhaps we'd be able to date this photo pretty accurately through accounts of harsh wintry weather between 1860 and 1883, and from the comments below, it looks relatively convincing that this snowy scene may have been captured circa January 1881.

Was delighted to see Rathgar Sawmills really clearly on the buildings in the background...

Date: Circa January 1881? (but almost certainly between 1878 and 1883 based on building evidence)

Lovely candid shot of a woman passing a newsagents on Sackville Street (now O'Connell Street), Dublin. This is from our Clarke Collection, most of which were taken between 1897 and 1904. Is there anything in this photo to help us narrow that date down? The headlines on the news posters are not very clear unfortunately...

Had never spotted an engine with a tram before in any of our photos (had there been a breakdown?), so thought you might be interested in this one.
