The 700,000 acre Tambopata Reserve, in southeastern Peru, is an incredibly species rich part of the Amazon basin. Here three species of macaws are circling along the Tambopata River preparing to descend to a colpa to ingest clay.

Incredibly, there are 32 species of parrots in this area. Here one can see three of the five species of macaws commonly seen: scarlet, green-winged, and blue and gold. Take a peek at it in the larger size.

The abundance of macaws in the Tambopata area is truly phenomonal, especially considering that they are threatened or endagered in large parts of their range.
