We took the ferry from PEI in the afternoon and then had something to eat before driving all night to reach the south eastern gate of Cape Breton Highlands National Park at around 3 or 4 in the morning. We napped in the car on the beach and got up just before sunrise (or when the sun should have risen if there was not thick fog).

I should have known right from that start that if this was how Cape Breton greeted us in the wee hours of the morning that the journey was going to be absolutely epic. And it was! As you shall see..

We pulled over at a very small fishing wharf to watch the sailors unload their early morning catch into a pickup truck. On the right of the wharf we could faintly make out the silhouette of a shack like structure planted just off the shore between some towering trees. To the left of the wharf, as you can slightly make out in the background of this photo, was a small camp of 10 to 15 houses right on the shore, protected by absolutely nothing at all, not a single tree, fence, or wall. It made for some interesting contrast. Ryan is capturing another boat pulling up to the wharf alongside the busy men.

Just as we were to begin our journey along the Cabot Trail, our car climbed a hill, and to the right there was a clearing in the trees and I was greeted with this magnificently gorgeous view.

LOL, for some reason it reminds me of LoTR. *shrug*

Into the Fog We Begin Our Epic Journey

The film version has a much more organic feeling and I love it. Glad I ran back to the car to grab my film camera and take the photo again. B&W + Fog were made for each other.

We took the ferry from PEI in the afternoon and then had something to eat before driving all night to reach the south eastern gate of Cape Breton Highlands National Park at around 3 or 4 in the morning. We napped in the car on the beach and got up just before sunrise (or when the sun should have risen if there was not thick fog).

After stopping in a little family owned roadside restaurant we decided to drive to the point and check out the lighthouse. The clouds were beautiful and it dawned upon me that the people of Neil's Harbour live in one of the most gorgeous places I have ever visited and they are treated to these views daily.

As we started our journey of the Cabot Trail we soon found out that we could not drive for more then a mile before having to pull over again and take another photo, it was just that gorgeous of a place.

I couldn't help but pull over and take a photo of this scene even though I was warned against it due to superstition. It was so beautiful I just couldn't help it, when would I ever get to see this again.

As we started our journey on the Cabot Trail we had no idea there was going to be such quick changes in elevation and as soon as we rounded the first bend we were treated to this view; we instantly pulled over.

FJ, Ryan, and I decided that with our last day in Prince Edward Island we would attempt to do as much of the eastern coastal drive as we could before catching the ferry over to Nova Scotia in the evening. We had stopped to take some photos of the fishing boats and huts in Georgetown and then noticed on the map that just north east of us there was a National Park with a lighthouse. Never did we expect the lighthouse to be right beside a farm with beautiful horses.

We had arrived in Charlottetown pretty late in the day because we decided to make a late trip to the Anne of Green Gables House even though it was closed. Thats another story, hehehe. We headed down to the waterfront hoping to see fireworks for Victoria Day but after speaking with a few local we were disappointed to find out they do not have fireworks. We were in the mood to shoot an noticed there was a lighthouse 15 minutes up the coast and decided to take a walk. Turns out they are quite expensive to maintain and might be torn down soon so we took as many photographs of them as we could. Tourists, hehehe.

Just when the guys said they had enough and wanted to move on to another location I decided I was going to be a little adventurous wander over some seaweed mounds that did not look very safe. Too my surprise I was greeted by a couple and their son. They exclaimed that even though it was a little dangerous, we HAD TO continue a little further around the corner! One by one, starting with myself, then Ryan, and finally FJ, we turned the corner, jaw wide open, and all we could say was, "HOLY SHIT!". We had found our own private photography cove! I was in love!

P.S. We were lucky enough to arrive when the tide was low or there was no way we were going to get in there.
