Correction: I was told that these ants are worker harvester ants. The soldiers must be even bigger.

- Ants in an AntWorks gel tank formicarium. The ants placed in these ant farms create fascinating 3D system of tunnels through the gel. The ants in this photo are large ones with huge mandibles so I think they must be soldier ants.

- A close-up of a different fly, don't know what type this one is. It has a body shape and colour almost like a bee but it's still a fly. The compound eyes on this one is hairier than yesterday's fly.

- A close-up of the head region of a bottle fly (Calliphora vicina I think). In particular, its compound eyes are really fascinating. These eyes actually consist of an array of eyes, which can be seen in this close-up.

- I'm not entirely sure but this butterfly might be a Painted Lady (Cynthia cardui). It's enjoying the late afternoon sun on a saw-wort (Serratula tinctoria) flower bud.

- I believe this one is a Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae) butterfly commonly found in northern Europe. It's resting on Eupatorium cannabinum flowers.

- I think this is an ant, and it was mating day for the ants at where I was I think, hence the wings. This one is not using its wings but trying hard to climb a thorny plant. We get a good view of the mandible on this one.

- A fly (is it a blue bottle fly, Calliphora vicina?) is feeding, going from flower to flower. They definitely don't look as pretty as some other insects but they are also pollinators.
