Every Chinese city used to have a giant statue of Mao, but there are less and less these days. Chengdu has a nice big one right in front of their science museum.

This statue seems rather famous in my mind for some reason. At least the three monkeys on top of each other, each in a different pose is something I've definitely seen before.

Swan Statue in the Lake

This statue of a few swans occupied a pretty prominent place in the park. And actually on one side of lake was some sort of structure, very Victorian in architecture and built entirely out of iron which made it quite unique, but alas I have no picture of it.

I guess this statue must have fallen over at some point and its head popped off. Instead of repairing it, you see what has happened.

Buddhas Under the Tree

There were a couple Buddha statues sitting under the tree which themselves look nice, but what I really found interesting was the tree itself. It had some really interesting berries at the end of the branches.

Shrine to Vishnu

I believe this is the shrine to Vishnu, one of the Hindu Gods that Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to. This was viewable through the right entrance to the Angkor Wat temple.

Cobra Guarding the Stairs

I'd like to see one of these carvings when it was new. The Chinese put up lions to guard their gates, and it appears as though the Cambodians put up cobras to guard theirs. I'm not sure which I'd be more afraid of, though if the cobra was this big I think I'd leave.

Feet are all that's left

Age has taken it's toll on a lot of the items left at each temple site. Here there used to be a statue guarding the entrance and now all that remains are the feet. Lots of items were stolen, weathered, and survived wars. Incomplete artifacts were everywhere, heads without bodies, feet without legs, hands without arms, etc.

Elephant Statue, Public Art

In one of the few artistic displays visible to the public this elephant statue was welcoming you to the old part of the city even though it was part of one of the nicer hotels in town it was still very prominent from the street.

In what is essentially a 2nd or 3rd tier uninspired and uncreative Chinese city this giant statue stands out in the middle of a turnabout on the way to the main dock. Also of note, the sailboarder guy is wearing the skimpiest of bikini brief swim gear.

What more can I say about this other than it's a bust of Uncle Ho. Like all countries this one is no different in that they honor their founder at every opportunity.
