Found at a nearby terrific spot for used and vintage cookbooks: Cook Books (on Washington Ave in Alta Dena, formerly in Burbank) an incredible treasure trove of books -- with one warning: there's a bit of a cat scent to the air, if you catch my drift (on upside, covers hat usual used book must). The reverse reads (and trust me, Google translate only makes it worse):

"As Shot" -- the only processing here is a bit of noise in the sky to prevent JPEG banding.

We were up atop Sentinel Dome for an hour or two watching clouds form and blow into Yosemite valley. Finally, the clear blue sky had been replaced as the clouds overtook the mountain top. On the way down we were enveloped in this soft fog that created the oddest light -- a silvery twilo. There is, in fact, a bit of color in these photos, but for a few minutes we walked in a black & white world.

Heavy gusts of spray, grinding thunder, and mossy stone steps greet you before the real climb to the top of the falls begins. A short ways up, and much closer to the water (too near to risk pulling out the camera), the double rainbows nearly encircle you, starting just at your feet. Unfortunately, nearly all scale is lost in this photo -- he's much higher (and wetter) than appears.

Up near Glacier Point I was spotted toting my ukulele (was only going to do my 1,000th obligatory "uke across America" photo -- don't ask) by this gentleman who happened to have a nice udu in his car. Well, his girlfriend (singing with a great Spanish accent) and he patiently allowed me to plink my way through some songs (Pachelbel, thanks again for only using 5 chords) -- a great time. Soon a German guitarist popped over to try his hand with the uke. Oh, some pretty mountains and stuff in the background.

Take the hike from Glacier Point up to Sentinel Dome for a 360 degree view of the park. Weather cooperated as we spent a lunch up top resting and snacking -- the last 1/3 of the hike was through soft snow fields. In background but one reason to head up: looking DOWN on all three levels of the 1,400' drop Yosemite Falls makes before thundering into the valley. Awesome.

The name says it all: that reflection of Half Dome still blows me away -- the only ripples on this smallish lake were caused by a duck scooting past to check us over.

Weather's cooperating wonderfully -- some slight showers, but all roads open and falls at full capacity -- fantastic! I think that's Bridalveil Fall just to the right.
