It was an honor to meet and recognize Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Tom Tislow, as Veteran of the Month. We owe Mr. Tislow a huge debt of gratitude for the sacrifice and bravery he showed during the Vietnam War. It is my hope that someday we can give Vietnam veterans, like Mr. Tislow, the proper homecoming they deserved, but never received, by establishing an annual ‘National Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day'.

I recognize the importance of education and ensuring that our schools, teachers and students have the resources necessary to help them achieve. Budget cuts at the federal and local level have led to cuts to programs that fund the arts, electives, sports and other extracurricular activities. That's why I was proud to hold a workshop that provided school officials and organizations that serve youth throughout Southeast Los Angeles County with information about grant funding for curriculum development, afterschool programs and arts education.

Hundreds of seniors attended Congresswoman Linda Sánchez's 9th Annual Senior Fair in Paramount, CA where they were provided with information, resources and health screenings. Present at the event were representatives from several organizations including the St. Francis Medical Center, the local workforce center, L.A. County Fire Department, SCAN Health and Long Beach VA.

The distribution center is one of the largest employers within the 39th District. Congresswoman Sánchez toured the facility, met with workers, and answered questions during an employee town hall meeting.
