Stopped at the services to buy some lunch and was amazed to see this parked outside when I returned to the car park.

Looked great in Police livery, a real reminder of the mid 90's. So, is it a genuine ex Police car? I'm sure someone on here will know!

The always controversial Ford Scorpio...

I remember reading a letter in Top Gear magazine (March '95?) from a reader / nutcase ranting about the Ford Scorpio when it was first launched. The writer was demanding that 'the evil scum that designed the Ford Scorpio' should be 'taken outside and shot'... Strong stuff!

After initially not liking the styling too much, I warmed to it quite a bit after a fairly short period of time. Perhaps a styling exercise that was a little ahead of its time.

Either way, they're thinning out fairly rapidly now and seem to be quite popular on the banger track at the moment. A shame, because a well sorted 2.9 Cosworth engined car, in decent spec, (preferably Ultima, but Ghia will do) is a very fine machine indeed.

No clues as to engine or spec on the American influenced rump of this Scorpio. Wheel trims and one exhaust pipe point to it being a low spec / smaller engined car though.

I think the 2.0 was devoid of badges anyway, so would guess that this is a 2.0 Executive spec car (assuming the spec levels were the same outside the UK).

Spotted a nice D plate Montego saloon (possibly a Vanden Plas) in this car park yesterday and was looking out for it when parking up this morning. No sign of the Montego, but this Granada was a welcome alternative...
