Los Flamencos National Reserve is one of the most visited reserves in Chile. As the name suggests, the park is like a flamingoes' house. They are everywhere... in the sky, in the small lakes or walking through the salt stones which makes the desert a extremely surreal place. But the reserve has a little problem: the smell. Sulfur is the major component of the lakes, but the view is so beautiful that after a few minutes you just forget about it.

PS. for those who asked, these things on the floor are SALT STONES . I know, it looks different and I will show more of this in color in the next photos so you can get a better view of it ;)

English
Juliana is only 8 years old and is already thinking about having babies. However, she has to wait two year more to get married, (according to gypsy's tradition, gypsy girls are only allowed to marry at the age of 10 and the boys must have 18) so she takes care of her brothers until she is old enough.

The gypsy girls learn ousehold chores when they are only 3 years old. The first lesson is how to scour many pans (the gypsies loves having a lot of shining pans in their shelters).

When a group of gypsy kids saw a picture taken by my favorite photographer on a magazine, they asked me to take a similar photo with them. Despite being a simple picture, it wasn't easy to make that five children comfortable enough so the portrait could seem spontaneous, but I think it worked.
The question is: do you know the name of the photographer who "inspired" us to take this picture?

Walking through the Atacama's desert it's like being in another planet, very different from Earth. The extremely resected soil reminds Mars. The air is so dry that is almost impossible to walk without carrying eye drops and nasal decongestant in the bag. No wonder this is the world's highest (6885m at Ojos del Salado volcano) and driest desert, with 5% of relative humidity.

All these factors makes Atacama one of the best spacial observation spots of the world and one of the main Nasa's search fields. Water from the Andes mountain range runs off into the desert, forming blue lakes with high content of minerals.

The canyon is well-known as the condors' home; these huge birds can weigh up to twelve kilos and their wingspan reaches over three metres wide. The condors are monogamic and one popular legend tells that when it's partner dies, the other one will commit suicide by launching into flight from one of the highest peaks and then simply folding its wings and dropping to its death on the rocky cliffs.

It's very common to see them at the region's sky, but if you wanna schedule a 'date' with them, just go to the Mirador del Condor in the early morning, or at dusk, where a lot of condors fly above the tourists heads.

Although its last eruption was in 1985, many people who lives around it says Misti is still awake.
An Andean legend says that when the Earth was created, El Misti was a man and Chachani, a woman. Another man, called Picchu Picchu fell in love with Chachani, but she chose to live with Misti forever. Legend tells us that Picchu Picchu cried a lot, and his tears became the lagoon which is at the top of the mountain.
3815 metros acima do nível do mar. Eles formam três grupos principais: Uru-Chipayas, Uru-Muratos e Uru-Iruitos
Last year, I posted only five photos here, but coming back to Flickr is one of my New Year's resolutions (ok. just being dramatic here). But this time, I have a LOT of pictures to post and stories to tell.
It has been more than four months since the last photo. The scene is almost the same: sun sets behind a bridge where a lonely guy is resting. But the place... totally different:

The Ponte Pietra (Italian for "Stone Bridge"), once known as the Pons Marmoreus, is a Roman arch bridge crossing the Adige River in Verona, Italy. The bridge was completed in 100 BC, and the Via Postumia from Genua to the Brenner Pass passed over it.
It originally flanked another Roman bridge, the Pons Postumius; both structures provided the city (on the right bank) with access to the Roman theatre on the east bank. The arch nearest to the right bank of the Adige was rebuilt in 1298 by Alberto I della Scala. Four arches of the bridge were blown up by retreating German troops in World War II, but rebuilt in 1957 with original materials.

Last Saturday I was invited to go to this Indian village situated between São Sebastião and Bertioga, on the coast of the country. There are more than 100 Guarani families living there, and the family members are usuallly very young. It's common between Guarani people to become a grandfather at age of 30. In this photo, three generations: Nadya embraces her brothers and son Luan, in front of her mother and great-grandmother.

São Sebastião, Brazil

This picture is #44 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

All the slums are colorful in Manaus. Even though a few kilometers from the port of Manaus, the largest floating port in the world, and a few meters from the Rio Negro, people who lives there say they don't fear river floods, which are common in the beginning of the year. I have to admit that I still don't understand how people move around between the stilts, even having seen it all personally, but anyway, if you are passing by and want some place to lunch, the owner of that van sells fish soup. Wanna try? lol
