I came across this dragonfly at the edge of a local pond. What caught my attention was ( I think) the drop of water the dragonfly seemed to be using as a reference point. I watched the dragonfly for some time. Each time it lifted off it would return to the drop and land either in front of or behind the drop of water. The photo was taken in July 2012, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

I took this photo during our recent trip to Maui. Just outside the front door there was a pond filled with floating beauty. I could not resist the opportunity to take a few shots. The photo was taken in February 2010, with an Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This is a photo of a small turtle, no more than several inches in length, rising to the surface of a pond in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. I rather liked the many shades of green, and thought I would share them with you. The photo was taken in August 2012, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This is a photo of a pair of dragonflies resting in the reeds at a local pond. The sun was extremely bright and light reflected off the brown reeds. Thus, there was a strong contrast between foreground and background. The photo was taken in July 2012, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

A Myna Bird Takes a Dip - Ka'anapali, Maui

This is a photo of a myna bird taking a dip in a small pond near the beach. The pond was rather shallow, so the bird had to twist its head to avoid hitting the bottom. It was a very hot and bright day. This shot is a lot trickier than it looks. Of course, I used a fast shutter speed to freeze the action. However, the bird was very dark and the water flashed in the bright sunlight, so I tried various settings. Let me know what you think. the photo was taken in February 2012, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This is the first in a series of shots of dragonflies mating. Dragonflies are remarkable insects. Their mating sessions are often quite lengthy. Although I have observed some of their behaviour, I do not know very much about the different species. I had assumed that the brightly blue colored dragonflies were male, but this shot suggests otherwise. If anyone knows, please drop me a line. Thanks. This drenched bird (House Sparrow) had a grand time in the pond. It was a hot afternoon on Maui, and he was just one of a number of birds in and around the pond. The photo was taken in March 2010, with an Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.
