317337 and 317338 passing Hitchin working 1617 Kings Cross to Royston on 9 October 2012. Generally I'm on this train rather than on the platform but thought it about time I got my pic of a pair of 317s on the middle road at Hitchin.

86901 and 86902 running light engine through Hitchin on 3 March 2007. I see that only the lead loco has its pan raised, and a Stone Faively at that!

66161 leading and 66081 trailing working a railtour from Kings Cross to Hoveton and Wroxham at Hitchin on 16 June 2012. I wouldn't normally bother with a "going away" shot like this but I probably won't get many more opportunities to see a loco hauled train crossing Cambridge Junction once the flyover is completed.

31460 gets a heavily laden York to Ferme Park van train moving out of Hitchin Up Yard on a wet 19 September 1987. I had always thought this was 31429 but it isn't so thanks to GerardTCC for identifying it as 31460!

31203 at Hitchin dragging 312724 working 1440 Royston to Kings Cross, which it will drag to Welwyn Garden City. On this occasion there was dragging in both directions to/from Royston, so I spent most of the day on the branch.

I am fairly sure this is 31167 arriving at Hitchin with 0930 Peterborough to Kings Cross on 2 August 1987, in the middle of dragging a class 312 between Sandy and Welwyn Garden City. I think that Sandy to Hitchin on the up road was the one bit of GN track where dragging took place but I never did myself.

Four class 31s in shot at Hitchin on 2 August 1987. I think that the unrefurbished blue beast is 31167 dragging a Peterborough to Kings Cross service, and 31191 is on the holding siding, but not much idea about the others. I think it is more likely that someone will identify the two characters talking in the foreground than the locos behind!

Double trifle with jelly at Hitchin on 2 August 1987, and I don't have identification for either, but the loco on the holding siding is probably 31191.

31191 at Hitchin on 2 August 1987. This is one of those fots where my lack of proper recording means I can't be sure what this is. But trifles with jelly weren't commonplace in summer 1987 so that narrows the field. Looking at a large version of the fot isn't conclusive, but suggests it could be 3118x or 3119x, and 31262vbMR is confident it is 31191, so now that's what I'm going to say it is!.

31145 arriving at Hitchin with an emu drag on 26 July 1987. I think this is 1215 Kings Cross to Royston with 312701, but not absolutely sure as I was waiting for the following train to Peterborough.
