The first Sheep were landed in New Zealand by Captain Cook in 1773.
There are 36,000 flocks of Sheep with an average flock size of 1400.
That represents 12 sheep for every person in New Zealand.
The cutting of the ears is the owner's mark.

Bennett Lake reflection - Yukon Territory, Canada

Bennett Lake is located in the Southern Lakes Region of the Yukon Territory.
The southern portion of the elongated lake is in the province of British Columbia and the northern portion of the lake is in the Yukon Territory.

The waterway is part of a historic canoe route connecting Bennett Lake and Nares Lake with the Windy Arm of Tagish Lake, which in turn links into Marsh Lake and then leads to the Yukon River.

The chain of lakes was first utilized by the local First Nation people. The lakes were a transportation route used for traveling from village to village and for establishing trade between tribes.

The first non First Nation explorer arrived in the region in 1883. The travels established a canoe route following a chain of lakes and what is now called the historic Chilkoot Trail. It is the same backpacking and canoe route used by miners and prospectors 15 years later during the Yukon Gold Rush to travel from Skagway, USA to Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada.

Miles Canyon, Whitehorse - Yukon Territory - Canada

Miles Canyon is a recreation destination located in the community of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. The canyon was created over 8.5 million years ago as a result of lava flows in the valley.
It is part of a protected Greenbelt Park Reserve. The Greenbelt Reserve is a top destination for many summer and winter activities when in the Whitehorse region.
The highlights at Miles Canyon include a suspension bridge, the Yukon River, a comprehensive trail system, a historic gold mining town and basalt cliffs colored in a strange orange lichen. There are opportunities to view riverboat cruises , Yukon rapids, and wildlife.

S.S. Klondike National Historic Site of Canada

The SS Klondike was the name of two sternwheelers, the second now a National Historic Site of Canada located in Whitehorse, Yukon, to commemorate the role these sternwheelers played in the history of the Yukon.
Before the advent of roads and other mobile, more than 250 sternwheelers made use of the Yukon River as the only means of transportation in the city. The SS Klondlike had a shallow draft, as she was designed to do away with having to push a barge when coming out of the Mayo silver mining district. She was the last sternwheeler that worked on the river, up until August 1955.

Top of the World Highway - Yukon Territory - Canada

The Top of the World Highway is a 127 kilometres - 79 mi - long highway, connecting Dawson City - Yukon Territory - to Tok, Alaska.
A ferry connects West Dawson to Dawson in summer, and residents living in West Dawson and nearby Sunnydale cross on the ice during the winter.
The Top of the World Highway is so named because much of its route meanders along the tops of mountains and ridges with endless views. Those driving along this route are able to see beautiful vistas including spectacular alpine valleys.

Dawson City is the heart of the world-famous Klondike Gold Rush.

In August of 1896, three Yukon "Sourdoughs", George Carmack, Dawson Charlie, and Skookum Jim found gold in Rabbit Creek, now called Bonanza Creek, and changed the history of the Yukon forever.
Thirty thousand (some say fifty) pick-and-shovel miners, prospectors, storekeepers, saloon keepers, bankers, gamblers, prostitutes and con men from every corner of the continent poured through snow-choked mountain passes and down the Yukon River to stake their claim to fortune on creeks with names like Eldorado, Bonanza, Last Chance and Too Much Gold.

An incredible community that has preserved its past, most of Dawson's buildings look old-fashioned, all new construction must follow this policy.
Today, you can meander the wooden boardwalks and wander the same streets of Dawson City that inspired world famous authors Jack London, Pierre Berton and poet Robert Service.

Balinese dances are a very ancient tradition that is a part of the religious expression among the Balinese people.
In Bali there are various categories of dance, including epic performances such as the omnipresent Mahabharat and Ramayana.
Certain ceremonies at village temples feature a special performance of a dance-drama, a battle between the mythical characters Rangda, the witch representing evil, and Barong, the lion or dragon, representing good.
Among the dance traditions in Bali, the following deserve special mention : Barong, Legong & Kecak.

Wet or Fine - Milford Sound - New Zealand

A boat cruise at Sterling Falls in Milford Sound - Piopiotahi in Māori - a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park.
Waterfalls cascading from sheer rock faces rising 1,200 metres or more from the sea, lush rain forests clinging precariously to the cliffs.

Milford Sound is by far the best known of all of the fiords and the only one that can be accessed by road. It is approximately 16km from the head of the fiord to the open sea.
With 182 days of rain every year, Milford Sound is one of the wettest places in New Zealand with a mean annual rainfall of 6813mm.
However the rain creates stunning treats for visitors with dozens of temporary waterfalls created both at Milford Sound and along the Milford Road.

Return of a guided tour on the Franz Josef Glacier - Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere in Māori - a 12 km long glacier located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

It’s a challenging walk, that offers superb views of the glacier, the surrounding mountains, and the Tasman Sea, by a clear day.

This is The early Maori knew Franz Joseph as Ka Roimata o Hine Hukatere (Tears of the Avalanche Girl). Legend tells of a girl losing her lover who fell from the local peaks, and her flood of tears freezing into the glacier.
It’s the world’s fastest moving glacier – moving at speeds of up to one meter per day. Franz Josef Glacier is located only 300 meters above sea level and is surrounded near its base by temperate rainforest.

The glacier was still advancing until 2008, but since then it has entered a very rapid phase of retreat. As is the case for most other New Zealand glaciers which are mainly found on the eastern side of the southern alps, the shrinking process is attributed to global warming.

in the footsteps of Jack London - Alaska highway

A cabin along the Alaska Highway between Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, Canada and Tok, Alaska, USA.

Jack London was a man of adventure and action and an intense intellectual.

Oyster pirate, deep-sea sailor, hobo, Alaskan prospector In 1897 for the Klondike Gold Rush, he died when he was only forty, but he accomplished more in this short lifetime than most men could in several lifetimes.

Even if he found very little gold, he became a popular novelist and short story writer as : "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang".

This is not the original Jack London’s cabin in the Klondike, in fact, two identical cabins have been constructed, each having half of the original logs : one to be erected at Jack London Square in Oakland, California and the other in Dawson City, Yukon Territory.

Punakaiki pancake rocks - New Zealand

View of a column of water shoot skyward from rocks that resemble giant stacks of pancakes - Pancake Rocks, Punakaiki, Dolomite Point, South Island, New Zealand.

At the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes at Punakaiki, horizontal sheets of limestone and mudstone have been chiseled by rain and sea into curious stacks, ridges and chasms.

In many places, deep inside the cliffs, narrow vertical air shafts created by the rain met with horizontal tunnels created by the pounding ocean.

At high tide, or in rough weather, the ocean swells rush headlong through ever-narrowing tunnels and force large amounts of water and compressed air to race upward through the vertical shafts.

Bali's famous rice terraces, located near Jatiluwih - Bali, Indonesia.
Go back over 2,000 years when hard-working farmers with primitive hand tools began carving the stepped terraces out of steep hill sides.
Generation after generation has extended and kept them in meticulous shape out of necessity, rice is the staple food of the islanders.

The Red Deer - Cervus elaphus - is one of the largest deer species.
Red deer were brought to New Zealand by European settlers in the 1850's and 1860's, along with seven other species of deer: Wapiti, Sika, Sambar, Rusa, Fallow, White-tail, and Axis. Today, red deer is the most widespread species, existing in the wild and on farms on both the North and South Islands.
