Miles Canyon is a recreation destination located in the community of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. The canyon was created over 8.5 million years ago as a result of lava flows in the valley.
It is part of a protected Greenbelt Park Reserve. The Greenbelt Reserve is a top destination for many summer and winter activities when in the Whitehorse region.
The highlights at Miles Canyon include a suspension bridge, the Yukon River, a comprehensive trail system, a historic gold mining town and basalt cliffs colored in a strange orange lichen. There are opportunities to view riverboat cruises , Yukon rapids, and wildlife.

The Great Grey Owl or Great Gray Owl - Strix nebulosa - is one of the world's largest owls, distributed across the Northern Hemisphere. In some areas it is also called Phantom of the north, Cinereous Owl, Spectral Owl, Lapland Owl, Spruce Owl, Bearded Owl, and Sooty Owl.
The Great Grey Owl is recognizable thanks to its large size and its huge round head that can rotate up to 270 degrees, or 3/4 turn.
This feature, shared by all owls, allows her to see the sides and behind.

From Skagway - Alaska - to Carcross - Yukon Territory - on an authentic steam locomotive, like during the gold rush, the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway steams through its second century of history!
Against all odds, the iron trail was carved through some of the North's most rugged terrain in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush. This engineering wonder climbs nearly 3,000 feet in 26 miles of steep grades and cliff-hanging turns.
This narrow gauge railroad is an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
Cheetah sleeping!" />

The world's fastest land animal, the cheetah, can reach speeds of 70 mph. The most specialized member of the cat family, the cheetah also is the most endangered cat in Africa.
Namibia is home to the world’s largest wild/free-ranging cheetah population; the majority of this country’s cheetahs and leopards can be found on approximately 7000 commercial farms. These large carnivores occasionally prey upon the livestock that roam unprotected in the bush. As a result, carnivores are often regarded as vermin by the livestock and game-farming community and are deliberately trapped and/or killed.
The AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of African big cats, especially cheetahs and leopards, offers farmers the opportunity to pick up animals they caught alive. These animals are then be fed and cared for on the premises of AfriCat. If the cats get heavily injured by traps they also get medically treatment. After the treatment and care the animals will be released in a safe area or if the damage to an animal is permanent and it no longer can hunt, it will remain on the several square kilometer large, based in Otjiwarongo, Namibia.

Couple of White Storks - Ciconia ciconia - standing in their nest and noisy bill-clattering - Dombes, France

The adult White Stork's main sound is noisy bill-clattering, which has been likened to distant machine gun fire. The bird makes these sounds by rapidly opening and closing its beak so that a knocking sound is made each time its beak closes. The clattering is amplified by its throat pouch, which acts as a resonator.
The bill-clattering is often part of a greeting ceremony between adults at the nest where one or both birds may throw their heads backwards until the bill is upside-down and almost touching their backs. Bill-clattering is sometimes performed unforgettably by large flocks of migrant birds especially when they are about to tumble out of the sky in search of a roosting site.

In many parts of Europe the White stork is an unmissable bird, attending to its huge nests on the rooftops and telegraph poles of numerous towns and villages. It is unmistakable, with a white body, mostly black wings, red legs and a long red bill.
Breeds in towns and villages on the tops of roofs and poles or, in colonies, in trees in open parkland. Feeds mostly in fields and meadows.
Alpha Gray Wolves - Mercantour, France

My Planet Experience posted a photo:

A fascinating animal : the wolf, in the most stunning of environments : the Mercantour national park.

In social animals, the alpha is the individual in the community with the highest rank. Wolves show deference to the alpha pair in their pack by allowing them to be the first to eat and, usually, the only pair to reproduce.
It is common behavior in a wolf pack for the alpha pair to be the only two to mate. It keeps the numbers under control, for too many wolves in the pack, especially puppies, would be a liability. Many hungry mouths and not enough hunters means they could all suffer. Instead, each wolf devotes itself completely to the few puppies that are born to the alpha pair, making sure they grow up to be strong and beneficial additions to the pack.

Since 1992, the wolves that had been exterminated in France over a hundred years ago are living here again. They kept migrating across the Italian ‘green border’. Today, there are 25 to 30 wolves divided into packs of five to six, roaming through the seven valleys of the park again.

The Mercantour National Park is a unique nature reserve located in the very southeast corner of France. It covers an area of 2152 square kilometers, almost the size of the Principality of Monaco.
Alpha Gray Wolves - Mercantour, France

The Mercantour is a unique nature reserve that aims at integrating distinguished ideals such as the protection of nature, the local and economic advancement and the preservation of traditional land use.
Before the advent of roads and other mobile, more than 250 sternwheelers made use of the Yukon River as the only means of transportation in the city. The SS Klondlike had a shallow draft, as she was designed to do away with having to push a barge when coming out of the Mayo silver mining district.
The Top of the World Highway is a 127 kilometres - 79 mi - long highway, connecting Dawson City - Yukon Territory - to Tok, Alaska.
A ferry connects West Dawson to Dawson in summer, and residents living in West Dawson and nearby Sunnydale cross on the ice during the winter.
The Top of the World Highway is so named because much of its route meanders along the tops of mountains and ridges with endless views. Those driving along this route are able to see beautiful vistas including spectacular alpine valleys.

View from Midnight Dome of Dawson City at the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike rivers - Yukon Territory.

Dawson City is the heart of the world-famous Klondike Gold Rush.

In August of 1896, three Yukon "Sourdoughs", George Carmack, Dawson Charlie, and Skookum Jim found gold in Rabbit Creek, now called Bonanza Creek, and changed the history of the Yukon forever.
Thirty thousand (some say fifty) pick-and-shovel miners, prospectors, storekeepers, saloon keepers, bankers, gamblers, prostitutes and con men from every corner of the continent poured through snow-choked mountain passes and down the Yukon River to stake their claim to fortune on creeks with names like Eldorado, Bonanza, Last Chance and Too Much Gold.

An incredible community that has preserved its past, most of Dawson's buildings look old-fashioned, all new construction must follow this policy.
Today, you can meander the wooden boardwalks and wander the same streets of Dawson City that inspired world famous authors Jack London, Pierre Berton and poet Robert Service.

A young boy harvests shrimps with a traditional landing net - Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia

The Tonlé Sap, from Khmer "Large Fresh Water River", but more commonly translated as "Great Lake", is a combined lake and river system of major importance to Cambodia.
It is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia and is an ecological hot spot that was designated as a UNESCO biosphere in 1997.
The Tonlé Sap is unusual for two reasons: its flow changes direction twice a year, and the portion that forms the lake expands and shrinks dramatically with the seasons and the people who live on the lake have to move their houses away when the water level goes down. Whole villages including schools, shops, churches and farms are getting pulled away to a place where the water is still high enough to float.
The Tonlé Sap River connects the lake with the River Mekong at Phnom Penh, in the south east.
Certain ceremonies at village temples feature a special performance of a dance-drama, a battle between the mythical characters Rangda, the witch representing evil, and Barong, the lion or dragon, representing good.
Among the dance traditions in Bali, the following deserve special mention : Barong, Legong & Kecak.

The traditional dress worn by Quechua women today is a mixture of styles from Pre-Spanish days and Spanish Colonial peasant dress.
It varies greatly in colour, design and style, depending on the region of Peru. In some communities they do very intricate embroidery on their skirts, and some use things like buttons, beads and flowers to adorn their hats and jackets. Embellishments on clothes and hair usually communicate one's social status in the community. Certain regions of Peru have very distinct traditional attire, and often you can tell what community or region a person is from just by the clothes they are wearing.

Lliclla - a small rectangular handwoven shoulder cloth fastened at the front using a tupu, a decorated pin. However it is more common nowadays to see a large safety pin being used.
K'eperina : a larger rectangular carrying cloth worn over the back and knotted in front. Children and goods are securely held inside.
Polleras : colourful skirts made from handwoven wool cloth called bayeta. Women may wear 3 or 4 skirts in a graduated layer effect. On special occasions such as festivals women may wear up to 15 polleras tied around the waist. Often the trim of each skirt is lined with a colourful puyto which is usually handmade. In some areas polleras are also referred to as melkkhay (Quechua)
Monteras : hats vary tremendously throughout the communities in the Andes. Often it is possible to identify the village from which a women comes from just by the type of hat she wears. Hats are secured with delicately woven sanq'apa straps adorned with white beads.
Unkuña : a small rectangular cloth which is used for carrying snacks such as corn or coca.
Ajotas : sandals made from recycled truck tyres.
Traditional Himba woman - Namibia

My Planet Experience posted a photo:

The Himba women of northern Namibia are famous for their use of otjize, a paste of butter, fat and red ochre, which they apply to their hair and skin, giving them a distinctive red hue.

There has been much speculation about the origins of this practice, with some claiming it is to protect their skin from the sun, or repel insects. But the Himba say it is an aesthetic consideration, a sort of traditional make-up they apply every morning when they wake. Men do not apply otjize.

Clothes, hairstyle and jewelry are all of particular significance to the Himba.

The traditional Himba women has become an iconic image of Namibia.

The Himba are a tribe of nomadic pastoralists who inhabit the Kaokoland area of Namibia.
