This is another shot of the first building you reach on your climb to the top of the Haiku Stairs. Also notice the H3 highway in the lower right corner ..... giving some perspective to the elevation gain at this point. Oahu Hawaii December 2010

Also known as the Stairway to Heaven...... a trail on the island of Oahu consisting of almost 4000 steps following a very narrow ridge line not much wider than the steps them selves and rising up to over 2700 vertical feet above sea level. Did this with a friend and co-worker on Christmas morning. Started this hike in the dark with some moon light and a head lamp through the bamboo forest and made it to the top at sunrise. Let me tell you that this is no walk in the park and is borderline dangerous when everything is wet.
This may be called the stairway to Heaven, but I think the stairway to hell would be more fitting. As you reach the summit and know that it's all down hill from here..... you realize why it is called the Stairway to Heaven with it's almost 360 degree panorama view and it's breath taking beauty.

This may be the most amazing day hike I have ever done. If you ever have the chance to do this start very early to avoid the security guard and don't forget your camera.... because you may only get to do this once :-)
