The shot is of Beaumaris Pier, but it's famous neighbour Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (thank God for copy and paste) is only a couple of miles away from here.
With the longest place name in Europe, it has the one of the smallest train stations and the name sign is longer than the trains.
Also, asking directions to it, is a bit of a nightmare........ viz a viz pronunciation. Anyone want to know, click here: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/Cy-Llanfairpw...

I must admit, one of my regrets in life is not having learned to ride a horse. Shortly after this was taken, they took off on a full gallop through the surf.......I would love to experience what that must be like.

Instead, I took another little rest.....on a sand dune......to ease my muscles, the dull ache in my left hip, the searing agony and burning sensation in my right hip, adjusted the long john thermals a little, put down the walking stick, removed the fur mitten, reached for the hip flask and popped another gout pill..... .......but it's nice to dream.

Spent the afternoon in Skerries on a rare photo-only excursion. It's a lovely coastal town just 5 km's from Rush and has some superb locations: so....guess it's gonna be Skerries week, this week.

And indeed I was. Mrs.Z said I was an eejit, getting up at 6.00am whilst on holiday. Well, as I told her, I can be an eejit any time of day.
But apart from the worm-seeker, it was just me at sunrise and the camera.

Snow Beach: The Day The Sea Froze

We had temp's of minus10 degrees last night during the first (and rare) snow storm of the winter.
This was Rush Beach this morning and what look like surf is actually frozen sea left behing after last night's high tide. (The ocean is on the right, out of shot). The reflections are showing in sheer ice and that dark cloud is the last of the storm passing away.
This is an extremely rare event in Ireland, but I can confirm.........it's friggin' cold.

Now. my contention is......those millions of people in the world who live by the ocean, take millions of shots of seagulls..........therefore they must be a cliché shot.......agreed?

The Rockabill Lighthouse (4 kilometers off Skerries) sent out it's first beam in 1860. Six men (3 on, 3 off) took turns to spend a month on the rock, until it was automated in 1989.

So....if you could choose two men to spend a month with, 24/7, who would they be?

I take hundreds of shots of seagulls and bin most. But it's been a bit of a thin week, so......back to seagulls.

Over a week, I watch them for hours and never tire of their amazing flying skills.
Sadly, in the UK, they are considered vermin. But that's because the tourists feed them and they have become scavengers. Whose fault is that?
Thankfully we don't do that in Ireland, and they continue to feed on their natural diet and are therefore not despised.
I love 'em.
