It's not Photoshop, it's the crazy pink elephant wallpaper I have on my desktop right now. (You can sort of see it in my eyes.) I think it looks kind of cool.

Once upon a time, I really wanted chocolate, but there was none in the house. So I put on my coat, and my scarf, and my mittens, and I walked down the road to the gas station and bought a chocolate bar, which I ate on the way home. And it was good.

But I still wanted chocolate.

So when I left for work a few hours later, I stopped at the gas station again and bought another chocolate bar. This one I kept in my bag until my coffee break, since warm chocolate is better than cold chocolate, and I thought maybe I simply ate the first chocolate bar too soon. The second chocolate bar was even better than the first!

And I still wanted chocolate.

On the way home that night I decided that maybe there hadn't been enough chocolate in the bars which I had already eaten. So I stopped at the gas station again and bought a bar of pure milk chocolate.

But after eating it, I still wanted chocolate!

I went to bed, and when I woke up the next morning the chocolate craving was even bigger than it had been the night before.

I put hot chocolate powder in my coffee, but it didn't help.

I went out and bought a really good and rather expensive chocolate truffle. It was delicious, but I still wanted more chocolate.

Finally I told myself that before I went out for chocolate yet again, I needed to eat some real food. So I steamed up a bowl of brussels sprouts, because they cook quickly and the chocolate craving was worse than ever.

When the brussels sprouts were ready, I sat down and at them as quickly as I could. And when I was done, I noticed something very strange.

I didn't want chocolate anymore!

That was a true story. I don't know what it is in brussels sprouts that my body mistakes for a component of chocolate, but on those rare occasions when I'm hit by an insatiable chocolate craving, one little bowl of sprouts gets rid of it. It's extremely weird.

This was on my shoelace when I went to take my shoes off this evening. I'm not sure where it came from, or how it ended up stuck so perfectly to my foot, but I couldn't think of a better idea for a shot today (I know, I suck!) so here you go.

I found a wig backstage tonight. It doesn't belong to the group currently in the theatre, which means it was most likely left behind by one of the clients who came in while I was away (since I can't remember the last show that used wigs). The responsible thing to have done would have been to leave it on my boss' desk with a note... but I can't resist getting myself into trouble sometimes. The large picture is what he's going to see when he turns the light on tomorrow morning. Assuming he doesn't come in through the wrong door. Even though I'm pretty sure he'll get me back for this some time when I least expect it, it had to be done!

It was a long fight, and an even longer wait, but Jericho is finally back on TV. The little voice in my head keeps saying that it's only a few episodes, the bare minimum CBS needed to do to get us to stop sending them nuts, and that it's not going to make it to a season three. But I'm not listening to her - she's a bitch!

So due to our crossing the International Date Line, February 2 didn't really exist for very long. That and I totally flaked on doing a shot in the airport or on the plane. Well, there was one from the plane, but I'm not going to subject you to that - it's pretty terrible. Instead, I'm sticking to my old guideline of one day equalling the time between bedtimes and I'll throw in an extra shot from the way home.

I know, I know... another shot of me in the hotel. The thing is, we've been spending most of our time at The Boy's grandparents' house rather than seeing the sights (we did that last time and the weather's been a bit dreary for sightseeing this trip anyway) and I feel like an idiot attempting to take pictures of myself while visiting.

On TV. I mean, really, who wants to deal with the crowds down by the harbour? (Besides the crowd down by the harbour of course.) It was way warmer in the apartment, and there was food and stuff.

The hotel bathroom has a magnifying mirror with a blueish light that circles. Basically, I think the light is designed to point out every single flaw in your face, but there you go. It might help if I ever get around to tweezing my eyebrows.

Yet another way-too-short vacation. We've been informed that we need to stay longer next time. And that we shouldn't wait for such a long time. And that Christmas in Hong Kong is very nice (hint, hint). And then there's that whole marriage thing, no pressure at all...

The good news is our flight home is more than two hours shorter because of a more southerly flight path. And, thanks to the old date line, we'll actually be arriving home earlier than when we left. Like really inefficient time travel.

Our hotel room is actually quite comfortable, but super conservative. And clearly set up for business clients. There's not exactly a lot of space to sit, just the office chair, a small chaise and the window ledge (which isn't exactly comfortable - hence the pillow). Fortunately I'm perfectly happy lounging on the bed.

Apparently it's gotten out that The Boy and I still aren't married, because everyone who came over to his grandparent's tonight presented us with these lucky red envelopes. And just in case we somehow didn't get the hint, his aunt made a point of saying that next time we visit, we'll be handing them out as well. But beyond that, it hasn't been too awkward going back for a second visit as just the girlfriend.

I know I shouldn't encourage it, but it's going to hit me anyway. I bought a pack of No Jet-Lag tablets before flying to London, but I can't really say that they worked very well. I'm maybe slightly less groggy on arrival than I'd be otherwise, but they don't seem to prevent the whole waking up at 4am thing.

Maybe I can ward it off my my official Air Canada coffee stir stick.

Day 84/39 - Another Point Of View

We finally got good enough weather to go exploring a little before lunch today. There's a Buddhist temple pretty close to our hotel, although the map I had was a bad photocopy and almost completely in Chinese. We marched gamely up a fairly steep path for twenty minutes or so before realizing that I'd chosen the wrong one. But it was nice to take a break from the city for a while, even if it was right there in the background.

Of course I would have to work the night before we fly. We don't have to leave too early - if we call a cab at 9am we'll make it to the airport in plenty of time. Still, I hate packing the morning of. I want my stuff ready by the door so that when I flail, like I will, I'll forget something mildly stupid like taking out the trash (despite the post-its on the door) instead of forgetting something really stupid like my passport.

Because it doesn't snow here very often, I thought I'd go over some of the basics. First, snow is only good to eat if it's clean. Fresh snow caught on your tongue or scooped off the top of a bush or something is probably fine. Snow on the ground, especially if yellow, should be avoided.
