Yes, I really did photograph some bins (I liked the colours, they just happened to be bins). Like Madonna said, beauty's where you find it. There is a precedent for a spot of coloured bin photography.

I didn't really need to rework this image but I wanted to put this image in my first exhibition and thought it would be a good opportunity to revisit it.

So what have I done differently? Well the most obvious change is the background is no longer blurred. I think the car still stands out without the need for blurring. I've edited out a couple of lampposts (they always niggled me) and left the numberplate unedited (the edit in the original version jarred a little). It's subtle but the saturation on the car has been toned down a bit for this version.

As to the exhibition, well that's on at The Village bar in Leith. Opening night is the 10th of June but most of the images are up now if you want a preview. It runs until the 2nd of July.

I did two versions of this image, both of which I really liked. This is the slightly desaturated of the two images. Here's a link to the first version I did for comparison, the differences are very subtle.

My goal, with both images, was to use HDR techniques but end up with a more realistic looking image and I think I've largely succeeded in that respect.

Taken in Fort Edmonton Park during my trip to Canada in 2008. I have another image taken from the left of this one, and coming from a slightly different angle, that I'll post at a later date.

A rare self-portrait. Tone mapped from a single RAW and post-processed in Photoshop. Tone mapping is pretty unforgiving on the skin - I wouldn't recommend it!

Three peppers

Peppers photograph well. If I'm making a chilli (which I am tonight) I often take the opportunity to photograph some of the ingredients first.

I thought I'd experiment and use my Sigma 10-20mm lens for a change. Also I used mostly natural light to illuminate this shot instead of the artificial light I usually use. Anyway, overall I thought it was an interesting result.

Peppers and mushrooms

I was in the middle of making a chilli when I took this. I hadn't planned on stopping mid-way through cooking to take some photographs but when I saw how good these peppers looked I couldn't resist getting my camera out.

The only reason the mushrooms are in there is because I needed something to prop up the peppers.

Suite at Hotel Missoni

There's a new boutique hotel opened in the heart of Edinburgh's old town called Hotel Missoni, this is a picture of one of the suites. This room was a nice size and I could have really done with a wider angle lens to get everything in!

The whole place (well what I saw of it on this visit) is very cool and not at all stuffy. There's a really strong design aesthetic throughout with bold colours and a lot of nice details. This suite had a fantastic panoramic view of Edinburgh too :-)

With thanks to Kevin on front of house who was decent enough to take the time to give me a quick tour.

With hindsight I'm not sure HDR was the best way to go with photographing this room but too late now!

I think the Flickr colour scheme may have had a subtle influence on my decision to post this after the blue Porsche picture!
