Here is the B&W version of my last post. I really liked the snow against the red rock in the color version (not much "fire" in this one) but I think the B&W processing gives the image a bit more dramatic look. This HDR panorama was created with a tilt-shift lens, and is three frames wide with nine exposures per frame at 1-stop increments. (Best viewed large on black)

Zion fresh snowfall to the valley floor in the morning light with fog was very impressive. The camera doesn't do it justice, but what an amazing view it was. The red rock almost looked like it was on fire and the trees were covered with ice and snow. This panoramic image was shot with a tilt-shift lens and is three portrait-oriented frames wide (with lots of overlap), with nine exposures per frame at one-stop increments. (Best viewed large on black)

A view from the Zion canyon overlook area above the tunnel. This was taken the evening before the previous post, so the snow hadn't arrived yet. The fog followed us as we drove up the canyon and by the time we hiked out to the overlook it was completely socked in looking west (to the right), so I took this image looking across the canyon that the road to Mt. Carmel follows instead. It was raining pretty good at this point (6pm), so we just got a few shots and bolted back to the car. This panorama is three landscape-oriented frames wide, with five exposures per frame (best viewed large on black).

My first trip to Zion when it snowed down on the canyon floor, although this image is from a little higher up. This is a panoramic view from the alcove along the canyon overlook trail. Four landscape-oriented frames wide with six exposures per frame (best viewed large on black).

An overlook in Canyonlands looking to the west at sunset, with rain and heavy mist hanging on the mesas in the distance. This wide panoramic view was taken several minutes earlier than the previous single frame post, but from the same location. The HDR panorama is 6 landscape-oriented images wide, with 5 exposures per frame (30 images total). Best viewed large on black.

A cold rainy day in Canyonlands that provided some challenging lighting conditions, but some rewards along the way. I took this back in October 2011, but just now got around to processing it. This is cropped from a single frame with 5 exposures at 1-stop increments (best viewed large on black).

This is a vertical panorama I shot in the Zion Narrows as the late afternoon was bouncing off the canyon walls. This image was created using a 24mm tilt-shift lens in portrait orientation, shifted up and down for the two vertically stacked frames, with 6 exposures per frame. I shot this image in November 2010, just as the fall colors were reaching their peak, and posted it in color at that time, but had not created a B&W version until now.

Here is a slightly different image of the area I posted two previous shots from in the Zion Narrows. This was shot back in November 2010, but I had not previously processed this particular image, and wanted to do one in B&W. The late afternoon sunlight was bouncing off the deep walls of the canyon and putting a nice nice glow on the edges of the cliffs on both walls. (Best viewed large on black)

Continuing on my recent BW conversion kick, here is the monochrome version of my multi-row panorama looking downstream at House Rock in the Zion Narrows. The previously posted color version is here: www.flickr.com/photos/44130981@N08/7293431396/. This multi-row, tilt-shift, HDR panorama consists of two horizontal rows (top and bottom) with six portrait-oriented frames per row, and seven exposures per frame, for a total of 84 exposures (6 wide x 2 high x 7 deep). This image is best viewed large on black.

I've been going back through some of my previous images posted in color and producing B&W versions of some of my favorites. Here is a reworked version of one of my favorite shots from Zion NP. This was taken near the downstream end of the Wall Street section of the Narrows. It is a vertical panorama (3 landscape-oriented frames high) created using a Canon TS-E 24mm II tilt-shift lens in landscape orientation, shifting up and down for the upper and lower portions of the image.

A view of the Golden gate bridge from the roof of Fort Point. The old Fort Point Light, located on the roof, was actuality the third lighthouse built at the fort and was deactivated in 1934 after the 740-foot towers for the Golden Gate Bridge were completed. This image is composed of a single frame with five exposures at 1-stop increments with HDR processing.

Lookout windows along the corridors of Fort Point, beneath the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge. These windows were once manned with cannon as evidenced by the tracks on the floor. This is a tilt-shift HDR panorama, two portrait-oriented frames wide with six exposures per frame at 1-stop increments.

I had to laugh when I went to take a photo of the Raygun Gothic Rocket Ship along the Embarcadero in San Francisco and found this guy taking a nap. They say life imitates art, but not sure this is what they had in mind. HDR processing of three exposures shot at 2-stop increments.

This is a shot from the roof of Fort Point, a civil-war era fort located directly below the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge, looking north with the Marin Headlands in the distance. Another image from Fort Point in San Francisco. This interesting room had some great textures with the old bricks and blocked-up doorway, some old supply crates and a very remarkable tent camera photograph on exhibit by Abelardo Morell. It was a ready-made still life waiting to be shot. This image is a single frame with 9 exposures at 1-stop increments, with HDR processing. (best viewed large on black)

Grace Cathedral Doors

The front entrance to the cathedral is really impressive. The architecture and stonework are wonderful, and the doors are the most accurate replicas ever made of the gilded bronze doors of the Florence Bapistery, and were made from molds of the original panels. The original doors in Florence, created by Lorenzo Ghiberti, took 27 years to create and were installed in 1452. They are considered by many to be the first and greatest masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. This is a tilt-shift vertical panorama two frames high with six exposures per frame, processed as HDR.
