This afternoon along Michigan Avenue, after the Art Institute but before the big breakdown. This city provides citizens with a legitimate winter, unlike Atlanta, which yields maybe one-quarter inch of snow per year.

All afternoon the snow fell. I went for a walk around the neighborhood with my camera. I was surprised by how quickly the footprints behind me filled up with new snow. Very pretty.

We in Atlanta are thrilled by snow. We freak out and take many photos of the snow. We don't understand what it all means. We are confused by it.

Today's guest is a very wet, slushy snow, not a Currier and Ives, powdery snow. But it sure has been coming down heavily all afternoon. I didn't have time to really set up the shot because my camera was getting pummeled by wet snow.

January 16.
I worked from home yesterday, periodically tuning in to the news to hear a magnificent buzz about the approaching "winter weather system." About 4 pm it started snowing lightly. Snow is so rare here in Atlanta that everyone goes bonkers when it happens. Grocery stores sell out of bread and milk; schools close down pre-emptively. I suspect we all secretly long to be holed up for five days, burrowing in our nests.

When it started snowing I walked around and took a few photos. You can tell that it's snowing here, right? Right?

It was a few minutes of pretty snowfall but as usual, it didn't accumulate.

We Southerners don't mind if you Northerners make fun of us. We know we're a bit ridiculous.
