Rie cake door did have icing surrounding at first, until I realised that the rice cake was way too big for the door'frame', so used a biscuit cutter to chunk it down.

I wish the icing hadn't done so dry and cracked looking. However, so far, nothing seems to have fallen off.

Here you can see my least favourite feature. I really didn't have much of a clue what to do with the front of the hole. I made some brownish colour icing and went for planks. The windows equally I'm thoroughly unhappy with. What I should have done, of course, is done circles of blue, then made a bigger circle of yellow and cut out space accordingly, sticking it on the top. Ah well. I was late, I was tired.

We do eat healthy things, honest.

I mean to be fair, the kids seem to like the idea of cake more than they actually eat it. I fully expect half of this to go dry as a bone. The point really is to amaze your child with the stupendously ridiculous amount of effort you went to over this symbolic object.

This was one of the points in the process I wasn't keen on. However, time is the enemy of the working class, and as such, I reserve the right to occasionally use pre-made gunk instead of decent organic cooking chocolate (mixed with organic butter, natch).

Our new 'Thermowood' backscrubber will according to ancient lore not attract black mould (a la the specimen on the left) due to having been baked at 180 degrees plus. It smells satisfyingly of charcoal and looks beautiful. Was in a sale, slightly damaged. Yay!

Old one can be buried deep down in the composter rather than binned. I likes me my 'natural' materials.

My recollection (written some 2 years later) is that there was a crockery works at one end of the island, but that it had never really been terribly efficient and it gradually petered out, leaving the detritus behind.

The bigger tomatoes weren't as successful as the smaller, juicier 'cherry tomato' type ones. I think we'll just grow the small ones in future.
