when rachel was pregnant with sequoia, we took nick for a walk in tryon creek state park, and made this photo, which has turned out to be my most popular image on flickr.com.

three and a half years later, we ended up on a family walk in tryon creek state park and decided to stage a reprisal of the scene -- this time its two-on-one, with a three-year-old karate kid on the ground, plus rachel vs. nick in midair. rachel and nick really know how to get their feet off the ground. nobody coached nick here, he just jumps like that.

after lunch, she's more of a lumberjack / gardener / kid chauffeur.

i don't get how she can be cranking out space-age brain surgery components in solidworks on her laptop one minute, and then manually sawing down trees and ripping out blackberry bushes the next.

upon cracking open her fortune cookie, this was rachel's fortune at a chinese restaurant last night. she resigned from her current job to pursue other opportunities, and just before her last day at work, she gets a fortune that reads:

Avoid unchallenging
occupations - they will waste
your great talents.

rachel, aka miss love -- out the door to drive up to the Future In Hand conference, aka the 62nd Annual Meeting of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. i wish i could be there to hear some of her witty comebacks to anyone who mistakes her for a booth babe. do orthopædic surgery conferences even have booth babes? she also is on the guest list for a rare & exclusive private performance by Rod the Long Bone, a band i've wanted to see for years.
