During our Route 66 journey, Ken and I came across the historical Fort Reno, Oklahoma. The fort was first established during the Indian Wars era in 1874. It had been used by the US military up to and including WWII when it served as a German and Italian POW camp. This particular building was the commissary and was built in 1885.

Today it sits empty but renovation plans are underway. It will eventually house a museum.

The Whitehall Mercantile building was built in 1900 and originally housed a general store and post office on the main level. This is a shot of the upper story which once served as a hall for the I.O.O.F. Lodge The Rebekahs and the Masonic Lodge.

Right now it's a great place to find a chair.....

A good friend (Ken Yuel - www.flickr.com/photos/specialagent/) and I just recently completed the road trip to end all road trips along the venerable Route 66.... We started in Chicago and tried to stick as closely to the original route as possible, eventually ending on the pier in Santa Monica. It was a great experience....
