Old barn found along the Opeongo Road up in Renfrew county.

Revisiting some older images and trying some varied processing techniques. Used Nik Color Effects Pro 4.0 to pull out some of the texture in the barn and the trees.

One of those rare instances where I had good luck with a bird.

This is a Pileated Woodpecker making a nest in a popular tree. Amazing to watch it chip out the tree -- the chunks were a good 1-2 inches long.

Black-capped chickadee's waiting for the bird feeder to clear during the Christmas break.

These things move fast, but managed to capture a couple seeing that this tree was the launch point for heading to my mother-in-laws feeder.

Comments, critiques and suggestions welcome (or advice on technique too for all you birding experts out there). I'm not a bird photographer necessarily, but thought I'd give it a try.

This was shot at the Exposure show in Toronto in the Westcott booth. This is Olivia Armstrong who had gorgeous long red hair and was indeed patient with the tons of people shooting her -- photographically of course. I actually think modelling jobs like that must be some of the hardest -- which photographer do you pay attention to.

Lighting was provided by Westcott -- see fjwestcott.com/

Crazy Seagull

I'm certainly not an expert at birds-in-flight shots, but this seagull was sitting just 10 feet (3 metres) off the Thousand Islands Tour boat we were on awhile back. Provided some good practice on getting an extreme close up.

Note that map location is approximate. This was during the 1000 Islands boat cruise.

Shot from the weekend of model Morgan Nicole Oldershaw during a workshop with Rick Sammon at the McLeans junk yard. Modelling for 10-20 photographers at the same time isn't an easy task - but Morgan was very energetic and postive throughout and took on all the crazy requests she got!! She deserves a lot of respect.

Great seminar, with both HDR and model shooting.

Out today on a photoshoot at McLeans Auto Wreckers as part of a Rick Sammon seminar brought to Kitchener by Kevin Pepper. Always a fun place to shoot, especially in the fall season when the rusted trucks/cars match the colours of the leaves.

Processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2. My aim today was to find some image that fit a heavily processed HDR effect and this one seems to work.

This was during the Raid on Gananoque 1812 re-enactment weekend, during the mock ship battle on the Saturday night. It was a challenge to only get the period ships in the picture and get something decent in the dark conditions, but I rather like this one with the gunblast reflecting in the water.

Ran across this sunflower field recently on trip. Wish I'd noted that dang bug in the middle and shot a few more -- how is it that these things always stand out later.

Decided to play around with how far I could take this image using only LR4. Could get the foliage to a full B&W, but I liked the muted green version better.

What do you think? Comments, critiques or ideas always welcome.

One of the smaller cannons sitting prior to loading and firing at this weekends raid on Gananoque re-enactment. If you've ever heard one of these fire, the lion head plug is certainly appropriate.

This is the St. Lawrence II brigantine (See http://www.brigantine.ca/ for more info), which was part of this past weekends 'Raid on Gananoque' re-enactment of the first battle of the war of 1812.

This is an HDR processed using Nik HDR Pro 2 -- I'm loving that software more every day.

Taken in Tobermory at the Canada Day fireworks. With the sun setting late and the fireworks being set off at 10 p.m., there is still some nice colors over the water in the bay.
