PS: The object on the right that looks like a tractor wheel is
in fact a big cylinder connected to a huge engine that used to
extract tons of potash minerals (salts that contain potassium)
______________________________________________

Here is an interesting review I received for this picture on my deviantART account from Kalistina. I'm sharing it here below because I think it's a good analysis:

One of my favorite visual impressions in physical reality is the disappearance of the ground-sky interface. I first discovered it in the Alps, were clouds frequently come in direct contact with the permanently snow-covered summits of the highest mountains. It can get very hard to tell where the earth stops and where the sky begins.

This photo initially triggers a similar effect. The sky seems to stop at the character’s feet... or even below. Of course, after a few instants the brain manages to get past the illusion, to unlock the physical reality that was captured in this photograph, to realize that it’s actually dealing with a beach-sea-city-sky continuum.

But this first impression remains. There’s a city in the sky and the character’s looking its way.

“Faith in Destiny”. Now that’s an interesting title.

Though most people use “fate” and “destiny” interchangeably, they actually designate two nearly opposite concepts - “fate” is the inexorable result of what happened before the present, whereas “destiny” is the anticipation of a future given the current situation. “Fate” introduces the concept of fatality; “destiny” deals with destinations, goals. Fate binds people, whereas destiny projects them.

As for “faith”, it’s the opposite of “knowledge” - it’s the belief in something that is impossible to prove (it is by definition irrational). Typically, one’s faith is aimed toward their gods - something that transcends them, that likely determines them by defining their fate. Greek tragedy comes to mind.

Here, though, we’re dealing with destiny - something that people set for their own sake. Having faith in destiny, unlike having faith in fate, means irrationally believing in one’s own ability to set oneself a destination and to advance toward it. I think it’s a very humanist kind of faith.

Back to the photo. In the horizon (which, remember, didn’t look like a horizon at first), we see a city. It’s the only non-natural element in the setting. This is the character’s destination. It’s the place he want’s to go to. He’s going toward civilization, leaving the cradle of nature. That doesn’t mean he’s giving up on nature, it just means he wants to interact with mankind.

Now, a frequent belief in occidental religions is the concept of heaven - the place good people go to when they die (whereas bad people go to hell). Morality ultimately relies on the believer’s faith in the existence of hell to motivate him to be a good person. In most of these occidental religions, heaven is also the place god(s) live in, and it’s usually either in the sky or above it.

As discussed earlier, the city initially appears to be sitting in the middle of the sky. I’m going to go ahead and say this city is the character’s heaven. It’s not situated in the actual sky, though - we’re literally dealing with a case of heaven on earth here. The destination isn’t an eternal afterlife with fellow deceased, but a present life with the actual, present humankind.

In other words, civilization is bliss.

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

The night now dances close
In its nocturnal dance dreams
Like a dark leaved evening rose
With thorns of yesterdays deems
I watch the shadows shift
In to my thoughts I yearn for
And back again to dim drift
To become nothing once more

My heart is beating loneliness
And echoing through its sound
Feelings to turn out to be less
Until they are nowhere found
So much is though hidden inside
In place of the outlying deep
That ruined my wishes or tied
Until their thoughts they sweep

Now abandoned I do crave
For something that's there still
And through the missing pave
To try to find again and fulfill
I watch the shadows dance
In a fluttering beaming light
Weaving the moment's instance
Through time and missing night

My heart shall stay,
Just as the present shall be,
We are just only - we,
And reap what we earn.
______________________________________________

LOVE IS NOT FAR. KEEP LOOKING FOR IT! ♥

The other woman walking in the distance is an important
element in the composition of this picture. The guy on the
rocks is attracted by a beautiful but fake holy creature. In
my view, the person with the red backpack symbolizes the
real and genuine LOVE... but it is actually going away from
him. Hopefully he will take the right decision before it's too
late (it's just my own interpretation, I understand you might
see something completely different, I even encourage this).

This is a photo I took during my trip in Spain, while I was
walking the "Camino de Santiago de Compostela" (I made
some 700 hundreds kilometers in a few weeks and met
some amazing pilgrims).

I also made the drawing. If you wish, you can view here
below (in the comments section) the work in progress,
some details, the scene from another angle and several
other Pencil Vs Camera creations...

Happy New Year.

(The above picture has been shot with the Samsung NX11)

See THIS VIDEO showing some 18 Pencil Vs Camera
All about You

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

It is all about you
Every day that I wake
Like a symphony new
In its moment and take
Every dream that's awhile
Of the echoes go
Form and its somber style
That we both now know

It is all about love
Every day and dark night
Moving clouds of above
Till the sun comes up bright
Every wandering going by
In their trips and desire
Burning sun setting sky
That's in the glow of its fire

Love is all about this
That you keep and you long
Like a morning freshly bliss
In a springtime new song
All that comes and is staying
With its gold spurring thought
In the times of its saying
That each love has on taught

(The above picture has been shot with the Samsung NX11)

images in progress (small animation and original music).

This is another long exposure photo (it looks slightly better on black). This picture is the result of an improvised collaboration with my long time friend Stoff (make sure to check out his page, there are some amazing creations to view). I love how scary Caroline looks...

I took this pic by night at the seaside in Hastings a few days ago, while I was travelling to the UK for an exhibition in London (Battersea Affordable Art Fair). I lived in Hastings from 2002 to 2003, it was so nice to be there again!

Stoff makes incredible "orbs" by playing with home made light sources. Luckily, Caroline Madison was there with us... during the long exposure photo, I first "flashed" her, while Stoff was making the magic orb in the middle of the composition.

If you wish, you can view here below a detail of the above photo, an extra shot and some other long exposure works.

Beautiful bluish light
From the deep within
Ethereal tide bright
Gyrating in its spin
Love touch and feeling
We thought were lost
Thru endless wheeling
In its ghostly crossed

Soul in state of free
Where no one has been
Abyss deep symphony
Life has never seen
Occult shadowy places
Thu its endless ways
Light and shade erases
As time surges plays

Beautiful though gone
Never again seen
Darkish and scary on
Light of blue between
The hours wear away
None of them to keep
As the elucidation play
From the ethereal deep

The road never ends
Straight and narrow
No curves or bends
What you seek
And what you find
Contain the myth
Of a faith that's blind
Follow your path
Follow your dream
No matter how discouraged
Your heart may seem
Don't listen to those
Who tell you you're wrong
The road never ends
When you sing
Your Heart's song

The road never ends
Straight and narrow
No curves or bends
What you seek
And what you find
Contain the myth
Of a faith that's blind
Follow your path
Follow your dream
No matter how discouraged
Your heart may seem
Don't listen to those
Who tell you you're wrong
The road never ends
When you sing
Your Heart's song

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Everybody is going somewhere,
With each night and day;
Futures are here and there,
Along the passion way.
Hearts are looking dangerous,
With their wings and fire;
Thoughts so often feverous,
In their searching desire.

Love will walk through alleys,
And twisted dreams in cities;
With all its many dillydallies,
And heat of the nights kitties.
Dreams must flicker and burn,
In ways of the pretty moonlight;
There is no way to return,
When love catches the ways of night.

Everybody searches the streets,
Trying with a plan to start;
Fragile and heavy bittersweets,
Messages to understand the heart.
With simple ways for a survival,
Though nothing can be controlled;
Planing schemes for each rival,
Tonight in the city shall unfold.

We are together
Everywhere it takes us
Getting better and better
As we come across
Life is never easy
In its way and go
Sometimes too much breezy
On its day and show

We are here for life
Trying our heart out
How much is there to strife
As we go here about
Dreams are on their wings
Flowing thru the air
As the wind in leaves sings
Through these days everywhere

Life is a spiral
Through the lights of turning
Keeping the essence adaptable
Forever on its roads burning

You and I to find
All our errors and trials
Leaving closed doors behind
In their blocked up denials
Every road is a spiral
Catching a day unknown
What we dream is achievable
Waiting for us at the horizon

We are together
