Note: Many people tell me that, like in some of my other
though. The truth is that I always spend some time to edit
my pictures (3 days of intense work in this case) to get
a nice balance of details and different gray tones...
Some innovations in the series: drawing with colors and black paper... This is somehow the "Beta Version" of "Pencil Vs Camera". Many more works coming soon. I left the drawing unfinished on purpose (I wanted to attract the attention on the lion's face mainly). You can view some details and the sketch in progress here below. I took this picture in Tunisia and I also made the drawing.

Update: See THIS VIDEO showing some 18 Pencil Vs Camera images in progress (with a small animation and an original musical composition).
________________________________________________

No matter the reasons or the circumstances,
I love you today more than yesterday!

A quick sketch I made while I was in Spain some time ago.
That dog was standing there, alone, looking at me. So cute.
I thought he needed some good company...

If you wish, you can view a detail below and the full series here

The above picture has been shot with the Samsung NX11

>>> Review from THE TELEGRAPH for this picture: A cat
seems to snuggle up to a dog in this picture from the Pencil Vs
Camera series by Belgian artist Ben Heine. The 28-year-old takes
colourful photographs of people or landscapes but covers a part of
the image with a pencil sketch. The sketch adds a bizarre twist to
the picture and acts "like a magic door to a fantasy and surrealistic
world" (The Telegraph, Dec. 2011).

>>> Review from THE SUN for this picture: "Dog's life ... cat
cuddles up to pooch" (The Sun, Dec. 2011)
Love Is...

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Love is a love today
Like before and without
Feelings gestured and play
That’s what love’s about
Nothing to do with playing
It’s just you and me
Forever in a heart staying
With every its opportunity

Love is not gone away
Like some of a longing
It’s in your heart to stay
Never its own abandoning
Ties to its circumstances
Giving its standing a thought
Each of its moments enhances
Blossoms of Forget-Me-Not

Love is a love like May
Spring in its freshest mood
All that makes life okay
Time of each life and food
Every in its music of own
Growing in wisdom more
All that can never be shown

See THIS VIDEO showing some 18 Pencil Vs Camera
images in progress (small animation and original music).
Love Is...

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Love is a love today
Like before and without
Feelings gestured and play
That’s what love’s about
Nothing to do with playing
It’s just you and me
Forever in a heart staying
With every its opportunity

Love is not gone away
Like some of a longing
It’s in your heart to stay
Never its own abandoning
Ties to its circumstances
Giving its standing a thought
Each of its moments enhances
Blossoms of Forget-Me-Not

Love is a love like May
Spring in its freshest mood
All that makes life okay
Time of each life and food
Every in its music of own
Growing in wisdom more
All that can never be shown
That is what love stands for

I just came back from a great 3 days trip in Northern and Central

Sweet child
Of the Streets Of Greece
Will Your Savior Give You Peace
Will You Wander
To And Fro
Sweet Baby Kitty
Where will you Go?
Backed in a Corner
Defenseless
Eyes full of fear
And Woe
Don't forget who loves you
There are little angels
For kitties and little wanders
Protecting You from danger
Look into my eyes, kind stranger
Help me make it through today
And maybe I can find tomorrow
Without tears, fear or sorrow.
Find a home for me
Away from the streets of Greece
Lost in the darkness
Help me find the light of day
Defenseless in every way...

Never leave me alone
In this world of loneliness
Your love’s a stepping-stone
By mother’s paws of caress
You’re the heart to my beat
In experience of your years
Show me ways around the street
Everything that love adheres

Thou some times are rough
There’s always time for allure
Mother’s heart’s quite enough
If it’s complete and sure
Life’s never an easy knowing
For the poor on their way
But to have you, is going
To another brighter day

Never leave me all alone
For I am young in the year
Your purr is purest tone
My heart could ever hear
Mother mother - I love you!
Guide me while I’m young
I shall come then strongly thru
Become burly - cats among

Missing you in my heart
Glow of time getting thru
All thoughts where they start
Just for me and for you

Coming together right now
Blossom’s of fall making
Each for winter´s cold brow
Within the feeling is aching

Lives twisted dreams inside
Conversing curves of days
That from your heart will hide
When there are autumn rays

Love is here never ending
Rivers that go down and deep
With every reaction blending
Some for old times to keep

Will you remember me calling?
Touching your hand with care
In days of autumn leaves falling
When I’m not with you still here

When there are autumn rays

Love is here never ending
Rivers that go down and deep
With every reaction blending
Some for old times to keep

Will you remember me calling?
Touching your hand with care
In days of autumn leaves falling
When I’m not with you still here

LOL, a quick sketch on my left hand (with ballpoint pen) and a photo with a soft flash in a mirror. I might develop the idea of drawing directly on the palm of my hand instead of using pieces of paper. That was a bit tricky because I had to make the drawing upside down... Thanks for your feedbacks.
I'll scare you
Bet you do!
Don't make that face
Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara) was a British musician, best known as the lead vocalist and a songwriter of the rock band Queen. As a performer, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. As a songwriter, Mercury composed many hits for Queen, including "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen", "Somebody to Love", "Don't Stop Me Now", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "We Are the Champions". In addition to his work with Queen, he led a solo career, penning hits such as "Barcelona", "I Was Born to Love You" and "Living on My Own". Mercury also occasionally served as a producer and guest musician (piano or vocals) for other artists.

The day is never the same
Thru each morning and going
Love today in its new flame
Inside your heart and flowing

Let this day flow
Thru its moment’s go
All is here to give
Be and thru time live
Moments lost in space
In their many ways
Some may return again
Others gone with the rain

Our life is like the flowers
In their way and the sun
Few moments in day’s hours
Before their times are done

In the secrets of love’s go
In all its tomorrow’s come
Some we never do know
Where its passion is from

Komboloi (or kompoloi) is a part of modern Greek culture, used to relieve stress and generally pass the time. It was especially popular up to the end of the 20th century while now it has dropped in popular use. It's still though considered a traditional trademark of Greek (and especially rembetiki) culture and a niche.

Komboloi worry beads resemble prayer beads, but, unlike them, bear no religious significance. They are merely an instrument of relaxation and stress management. In modern times komboloi is also used by people who want to limit smoking.

The origin of the Greek komboloi is debated. It may derive from the komboskini used by Orthodox monks or the Islamic Misbaha. Armenians also have their own worry beads which serve the same purpose as the komboloi and are also non-religious in nature.

Komboloi can be handled in many different ways. The most common are a quiet method, for indoors, and a noisier method that is acceptable in public places. The most common quiet method is to start at one end of the thread or chain, near the shield, and to pull the thread forward using that hand's thumb and the side of the index finger until one of the beads is reached. Then the cord is tipped so that the bead falls and hits the shield. This is repeated until all the beads have been tipped and then the user starts over.

The second, louder, method is to divide the beads in to two groups. On one end is the shield and a small number of the beads. On the other end is the rest of the beads. Where the two threads are empty, that space is laid between the index and middle fingers. The hand should be in a position where the palm is facing the torso. Then the end behind the hand is swung up and forward so that it hits the other beads, making a noise. The threads are then switched back into the space between the index and middle fingers by holding the threads between the thumb and the side of the index finger. This is repeated rhythmically, creating a louder clicking noise than the quiet method. An easier and soothing method is to hold all of the komboloi in one hand and roll the beads against each other, creating soft clicking sounds.

A more modern version of these worry beads continues to gain increasing popularity. Sometimes called wigglers, these simple strings of beads can be used in a number of ways, including both one- and two-handed methods that involve rapidly wiggling the beads in various directions. Fans claim that wiggling the beads creates a rush of adrenaline, followed by a soothing, calm sensation.

This is a pencil drawing on A3 paper.

CocoRosie is an American duo based in France and formed by sisters Bianca Leilani "Coco" and Sierra Rose "Rosie" Casady. Sierra mainly plays the guitar, piano and harp, and contributes vocals. Bianca sings and manipulates various children's toys/electronic & percussion instruments as well as other exotic noisemakers. CocoRosie performed strictly as a duo early on but in recent years they have appeared with various backing musicians at live shows, usually a bassist, synth player and beatboxer. They have been a very active touring group, playing a seemingly endless stream of dates across Europe and making several trips across the US and all points beyond.

Fluffy friend, so soft to hold
Cuddly friend, when I am cold
Leaping friend, wow, you jump high
Funny friend, you almost fly
Then Murderous friend, another dead bird
Clawing friend, bloody absurd

Alvin Ailey was an American modern dancer and choreographer who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on 92nd Street in New York City. He died of AIDS, at the age of 58.

Alvin Ailey was born in Rogers, Texas on January 5, 1931 and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of twelve. There, on a junior high school class trip to the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, he fell in love with concert dance. Inspired by performances of the Katherine Dunham Dance Company and classes with Lester Horton, Mr Ailey began his formal dance training. It was with Mr. Horton, the founder of the first racially integrated dance company in this country, that Mr. Ailey embarked on his professional dance career. After Horton's death in 1953, Mr. Ailey became the director of the Lester Horton Dance Theater and began to choreograph his own works. In 1954, he and his friend Carmen de Lavallade were invited to New York to dance in the Broadway show, House of Flowers by Truman Capote. In New York, Mr. Ailey studied with many outstanding dance artists, including Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman and took acting classes with Stella Adler. The versatile Ailey won a number of acting roles, continued to choreograph and performed as a dancer.

In 1958, Mr. Ailey founded his own company, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Mr. Ailey had a vision of creating a company dedicated to the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance heritage and the uniqueness of black cultural expression. In 1960, he choreographed Revelations, the classic masterpiece of American modern dance based on the religious heritage of his youth.

Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Ailey created some 79 ballets, many of which have appeared in the repertoire of major dance companies, including American Ballet Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Paris Opera Ballet and La Scala Ballet.

Mr. Ailey died on December 1, 1989. Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times wrote of Mr. Ailey, "You didn't need to have known Ailey personally to have been touched by his humanity, enthusiasm and exuberance and his courageous stand for multiracial brotherhood."
