Infinite Canvas

As I drove through North America, slowly passing from one landscape to the next, it really overwhelmed my senses seeing just how vast and beautiful our world is. Millions of acres lay untouched by civilization, simply existing for us to marvel at. The sheer complexity of it all really inspired me to play with the idea of creating the details of a landscape and working with the colors inherent in natural places. Thus was born this idea! I would highly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to just go on an adventure. It is very therapeutic to the mind and soul, and inspires amazing things!

This image was taken in Badlands National Park, South Dakota. The model is my beautiful girlfriend Casey ! Check out her work as well!

A Dazzling Existence

The beauty that exists in the world is almost too much to behold. I have just returned from a road trip across the Northern United States and Southern Canada, and feel like I have peered into other worlds! Over the last two and a half weeks I have seen dozens of astoundingly beautiful places, experienced a ton of new things I’ve always wanted to do, and have met over 60 talented and inspiring people that will surely shape me in ways that I’ll still be discovering years from now. I dearly miss everyone that I met but I know God has plans for our lives to intertwine again! I am excited to see where life takes each of us!

This is a shot of our host in Vancouver, the incredible Lizzy Gadd ! She and her beautiful family took us to all sorts of amazing locations, many of which will surface photographs over the next weeks! Please check out her work, she is so insanely talented and inspiring! We shot at this waterfall for like 2 hours and right as we were going to leave, the light started making rays in the water and I was able to shoot this! Too many things seemed so perfect on this trip!

Much more conceptual work to follow!!!

The Bathing Pool

Things get so much clearer when we wash away the dirt and look up to the sky…

A couple weekends ago I had the incredible opportunity to shoot at a state forest full of cliffs and waterfalls with Jennifer Ilene Photography and some awesome models. Definitely check out her page, she has already posted some amazing images from the trip! The environment is literally my dream and being there is constantly inspiring! More shots to come!

When Thoughts Drift to the Heavens

What a wonderful season this has been! I truly feel like I am living a dream at moments. Yesterday I finally received a copy in the mail of Digital SLR Photography Magazine with my name and photo inside! This is the first time I’ve been feautured in a major magazine! Check it out HERE! and like my page while you’re at it!

Thank you to every one of you that has given me any encouragement or any attention period! I love what I do and can’t wait to see where it takes me! Super excited to meet a bunch of my inspirations here on flickr this summer so here’s a shout out to all of you :)

Struggling to Breathe

Everybody struggles to breathe at some point in their life, although most of us get it under control by a young age. But for so many people in the world at large, the opportunity to flourish and thrive isn’t even theirs. They are being choked out and left without hope while the strong ones soak up the benefits. I recently discovered through my friend Nick who does promos for them, an organization that does incredible work to support a new charity each week by selling graphic tees and things like that- the consumers fuel the donations! If you want to make a difference and support a great up and coming organization, check out sevenly.org and see the difference they’re choosing to make! We all have opportunities to support the life of others that are less fortunate, its just a matter of what we choose to open our eyes to!

Thank you to my friend Jarrod for enduring cold paint in cold weather for a good half hour! This clearing had this very interesting yellow/sickly pines (arent they supposed to be evergreen?!) and I had to use it!

Dreaming of Heaven

47/52 - Creation It is amazing the dreams we create :)

Have you ever had a season in life where certain events that aren’t necessarily connected end up being completely connected once you look back at them? I have been in a series of events like that lately, though mostly small things, and they certainly seem to point to God. I have recently read the book “Heaven Is For Real” which is an incredible account of a 4 year old that nearly died, and in that experience saw heaven while he was “out”. One of his most exciting revelations about heaven was that there are so many brilliant colors, even outnumbering the rainbow! Right after having read about this, lo and behold the sky you see in this picture is the sunset we had 2 nights ago! Needless to say, we are living such a gift, and it is only going to get better! I pray this encourages you to continue living and dreaming boldly, and maybe even considering believing the wonderful existence of God if you haven’t before!

Thanks so much to Joel for his recent tutorial on making wispy magic in photos :) I’ve been wanting to try it out for a while! And clearly nothing is more magical than dreaming on a rooftop :P

The Training

I think every moment in a day counts as important. Every moment we have can be focused on something worth moving towards. My experience with this lately is in training… it can be very difficult and requires serious focus, but after however many seconds or minutes or hours you put into it, you can become incredibly that much stronger. Think about the aspects of your life that require training… train your mind to think only positive and joy filled things. Train your body to be the strongest you need it to be. Train your actions to be uplifting and beneficial to others. And train your love to be bold.

I love spontaneous shots that turn out even half way decent :) My roomie and I were just location scouting and then saw this forest on the side of the road with PERFECT light passing through it. I just had to think of a crazy photo to shoot! Also this is two horizontal images stitched from top to bottom!

Hey guys and gals! I have finally posted a Q&A video prompt and update, check it out here and send me your questions, I’ll do the answers in a week or so!

I’ve been wanting to do a clone for a while, the composition is inspired by Nicholas Max and Brooke Shaden! I am so glad the sky was epic this evening to add to the shot :D This is inspired by a nightmare I have had also, I should add!

Reaching For Excellence

Here is another shot I did for Ella Sven, and boy is it hard not to post all the others I am working on- we’re having so much fun! Anyhow, thanks SO much to the model Sydney for braving the eerie forest water :) The idea here is that even in the floods and storms of life that swamp us on occasion, striving to fight through it all will take us to a level of excellence. Reach for excellence, and surely you'll find it!

So I just got back into school, I have lots of things pending, and its just kind of crazy. But all in all I’m staying on top of things and I’m so happy! I have one super exciting thing I’m doing this week that I’ll be sharing soon! Also, I am redoing my website so it will be up and running soon with a clean, fresh look. Lastly, I’ve finally found some amazing videographers to help me make a legit promo vid, so look forward to me actually doing that in the next month or so- I know I never made one this summer, but its worth doing right! Well, off to see your streams for a bit then dinner, ciao!

42/52 - In the Storm -This is a given to view large :D

Nothing can describe the feeling of being on the brink of countless tornadoes and experiencing sunset, friends, foreign places, wind, and beauty all at once. This photo title came from the expression my boss gave when looking at this: “It looks like the day Jesus will return!” Honestly, this had to be one of the coolest moments of my life! All that was done to the sky here is a boost in contrast, all the colours are natural- only God’s hand could have painted such a magnificent sky :) This is what we faced the entire drive home (it was a lot freakier once it got dark, literally we drove through 4 hours of tornado warnings without stopping!) Anyhow, this is the last of the Tobermory photos, hopefully I’ve inspired you all to check it out!

To Be Small

39/52 - Words - Words cannot describe this completely!

Just another reminder of how small we are and how big the world is :) If you look to the right side of the photo you can see this giant cave opening in the side of the cliff, and the actually you’re only seeing about half of the cliff! Moments like this when we were backpacking reminded me how amazing God is and how thought out the world was. We could literally never see it all, which makes me so excited that at least I get to live forever :D Then maybe I will! Anyhow, hope you’re having a beautiful day, its starting to feel like fall here! Had to bust out a sweater!

Guardian of the Sea

One of the most calming and cleansing places for me is by the sea :) In our case here in Michigan, we have freshwater seas, the Great Lakes, and the crystal clear water just makes me want to gaze endlessly into the depths of the blue and green rocks. This place is actually across from the northern end of our Great Lake Huron in Canada- one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been! I wouldn't normally say this but this is a MUST to View Large - 6 images stitched :)

Drowning In The Rainbow Pool

40/52 - Rainbow

We all rush to fulfill dreams full of stardust and rainbows when it is all just floating in the sky.

So this was taken on my camping trip this past week! The water at this place was seriously bright blues and greens and sometimes yellow, and in this particular cove, called “Mermaids’ Cove” the colours looked like a rainbow! Haha unfortunately the water was ice cold and gave me some serious shivers :P All I did to this photo is play with contrast, so enjoy the beauty of mother nature! Can’t wait to share the rest from my journey! :D

Treetop Spectacles

Hey everyone! I am not dead, just went backpacking for a week in Canada! :D :D :D Yes I am full of joy from all the wonderful experiences… climbing cliffs, exploring caves, swimming in ice cold water, dodging tornadoes… and all with two of my best friends ! Anyhow, I took so many photos that it’ll be hard to decide which ones to upload, but be ready for some epic !

This shot is from my adventure with Alexandra before I left, she and I both have a love for anything native seeming and nature-related ! This tells a bit of a story about that adventurous spirit! Two vertical images were taken to compose this square and the golden tones were captured right before sunset- best time of day :D

Weee! Going out just spontaneously for photos with someone equally creative as me just makes me want to sing! Thanks Alexandra for this crazy and adventurous shoot! I’ll be posting a totally different one from this shoot too :)

I guess I just got this idea from the thought of being a carefree kid (which is what Alex and I both are!) and we found these berries in the wild. Among other details, this has a lot of meaningful symbolism to me. There is power in wild berries for natural healing, much like the power of God that came as a sacrifice to heal us!

Her Morning Elegance

I have the most beautiful girlfriend, inside and out! I am so incredibly blessed by her and my family and friends. For my birthday, I couldn’t imagine a better gift than knowing I am so loved, even when I don’t deserve it! Thank you to anyone who has given me support at some point, you mean the world to me!

On that note I would really appreciate it if you could pray for my roommate- he suffered a pretty bad bike accident yesterday and could use that support. Love you bro!

This was taken on a short and really fun camping trip up north this week :D It was great sitting by the road, taking a break, and just weaving a flower crown. I realized that you definitely have to find breaks and rest in life, or you'll run yourself dry! Oh how it feels to be free!!! The light was so gorgeous this evening, making it possible to get this SOOC- its usually not THAT easy!
