That moment when dreams start turning into reality...

I have finally gotten to a week where I have free time to edit some past work that I took on travels! This was taken in the AMAZING bluff cove in L.A. back in January! The model is the gorgeous and talented Ashley Hershberger! A HUGE thanks to David Talley for making this incredible opportunity possible! Thank you to Ethan and Taylor for assisting with the dust, they made that dirt look gawgeous!

I had the privilege to do engagements for my good friend & his fiance, and it is now less than a month before I get to stand in their wedding! I couldn't be more excited. I love their beautiful relationship that ensnares them both in a rich and selfless love! Now they will be caught in the ranks of countless other lovers to test and try each other, I can't wait to see where they go!

Believe it or not it was only 10 degrees when we shot this... we hung each of those kites in the bitter cold! Worth it, always :)

I had the wonderful privilege of going on a camping trip to Hocking Hills this past week with some of my closest friends. I have been wanting to spend more time with my bro Jakob and his girlfriend, and this was the perfect opportunity. In addition to being in such an incredibly magical place, we had superb weather the entire time, warm enough even to jump in ice cold water ! I'm looking forward to sharing more images from this shoot on my facebook & tumblr:
A Labyrinth of Afflictions

Rob Woodcox posted a photo:

This past Sunday I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the group home for foster children that I visit every month. As always, it was emotionally nerve-wracking walking into that building, knowing what burdens often consume those precious kids. When we arrive, we never know which kids might be gone on a potential home visit or held back due to mistakes made that day. Once the kids started funneling into our activity center, I immediately scanned to see if my boy from camp last year was present, and my search came up empty. I was slightly disappointed but knew he might turn up later, so I took to some familiar faces from my last visit and made sure to make them feel loved and welcomed! After the whole visit had gone by, I hadn't seen my boy... turns out he had gotten in trouble after having a hard experience with his family. My heart was wrenched, but I was determined to still get to say hello at least, to let him know I missed him and couldn't wait to visit again! To my relief, his room counselor decided it would be ok for me to visit with him for 5 minutes! Needless to say, those were the best 5 minutes of my month, and the best hug! It wasn't much, but the opportunity to encourage and provide consistency for a child is worth more than gold. I am so thankful that I have the privilege to be a leader for kids; especially when I can only imagine the afflictions they face. I pray I will never take that opportunity for granted, because nothing will be more powerful than seeing these kids grow into beautiful, talented, shining individuals one day! Spending this evening eternally grateful to God :)

A HUGE thank you to the brave model and the assistants that helped make this exciting shoot possible!

Please consider supporting foster kids by donating to send them to camp, LESS THAN 3 DAYS LEFT: www.indiegogo.com/projects/stories-worth-telling

This photo is dedicated to one of my good friends. In her life she was never actually put in foster care, but shared a story similar to many kids in the system. Coming into early adolescence, she was often left by negligent parents to take care of her younger siblings. She has become one of the best people I know, and that is thanks to people giving her plenty of support since then!

Please share this with everyone you can that you think might be able to donate!

Photo 4 for Stories Worth Telling. Shooting at this location was such a blast! I felt like I was entering a fiction novel, like the Boxcar Kids books I read when I was a kid. This took place on my roadtrip to California back in December, and it was an honor to shoot alongside my talented friends Jennifer Ilene, Peter Jamus, Sarah Loreth and Shane Black! A huge thank you to these brave little models- it was cold and getting dark when we shot this! I'll be sharing another really cool shot or two from this location!
Foster children are often labeled as “damaged goods.” This stereotype could not be further from the truth. You have the opportunity to help children break the cycle and shatter the stereotypes; lifting these weights that can bury children and leave them feeling hopeless.

I am beyond excited to FINALLY share the project I have been working on for so long: Stories Worth Telling.

This image is the first installation in a series of 20 photoshoots that will tell the stories of Foster Children, on their journey out of abuse and neglect, through placement processes, and finally to a landing place of hope. I could not be more excited to share this hard work that my team and I have been tirelessly putting together.

My heart resides in the forests and the mountains. The place I feel the most alive is amongst the tall timbers that stretch toward the sky, canopies blanketing the world below. I’m not quite sure if its the safe feeling I get, or the magical characteristics that evolve with each changing moment as I step around a new tree trunk. Whatever the cause and even though my time in the forest is rare, I continue to dream of a life spent amongst the trees. A life where the forest overtakes me.
Kept in Cages

Rob Woodcox posted a photo:

Sometimes I wonder what life looks like through the lens of strangers. So many faces look lost, sad and heavy with the work of the days. Sometimes I search all these fast-paced bodies to see where there is a body that is alive. These searching thoughts lead me to wonder what makes these faces heavy and distraught. Is it a fight with a family member? A bad day at work? Or could it be something deeper, the unsatisfied feeling that people get when they haven’t quite reached their dreams?

Too often I feel as though the challenges of this world overtake people; and not just some people, far too many people! Fear lurks in corners, keeping its prey in check, disallowing them to venture out beyond the safe path set ahead of them. And as this phenomena continues, eventually the victims become burdened beyond recognition, falling into a robotic, listless state, stuck within a seemingly impenetrable cage. Every day is just a cog in the machinery of tomorrow, pacing and fading as the drum of a motor.

Despite the fact that fear roams freely in this world, I believe it has already been defeated. And not only by my trust in God do I know this to be true, but through my experiences and relationships, I know that fear has no hold on my future, and cannot win the world. I have been blessed with the best friends I could imagine, and have had the insane privilege to meet and work with some of the most inspiring people over the last 6 months, many of whom have become close friends. In conversations I have discovered that we all share some level of uncertainty about our futures, a fear that can be crippling, yet we all know that our future will be bright, and bold. We know this because we all share a bond to be change-makers, inspiration creators, and over-comers of the things that try to hold us back. Find those people to be support in your life, and don’t ever settle for people who bring you down or hold you back. I have been given the best friends I could possibly be blessed with, and I intend to change the world with them :)

P.s. a HUGE thank you to all of you who suffered for this image, you are all incredible and a huge part of what this write up is about. I love you all and cannot wait to see you again!

Down by the sea is where I wish to be… <3 definitely missing Cali!

Karrah Kobus is so wonderful! As if her talent doesn’t already say that, she is a super sweet and kind person! It was such a privilege to travel across the country with her and some of our good friends! It has definitely been a dream to work with her for quite some time, and that was finally made possible on this trip. Anyone who knows Karrah probably knows she loves mermaids, or possibly is one… so this idea was perfectly fitting! It was definitely worth the hassle that seaweed presents to create her outfit out of it!

On another note, please keep her in your thoughts today, I know she is experiencing a challenging time!

Finding ourselves can feel like a game of smoke and mirrors; trying one thing, failing and then trying ten more. By the time we’ve completed all these trials and errors, it can often seem bewildering. Peers, parents, leaders and teachers can all complicate the matter by telling us who they think we should be. It is acceptable to be uncertain of your future and not know all the answers, for in fact no one has all of the answers. The advice of others is indeed important, but never lose control of your own intuitions. God and you know yourself the best, and only in that relationship can you truly find your direction in life. We are very multifaceted beings; there are many depths to our labyrinthine souls. Take delight in knowing that you will always learn more about yourself, for you were created with more purpose than can ever be known.

I truly enjoyed getting to finally meet Zack Ahern, the model here; he has been a huge inspiration of mine since I began photography. I will miss our deep discussions that delved beyond just the surface of who we are! This was taken during my recent roadtrip across the U.S. in Oklahoma, on the way back from meeting 60 other artists!
It is now the final leg of the journey home and I am dreading the moment I have to say goodbye to my wonderful friends for good. The good news is, I have spent the last 3 weeks growing so much closer to some of the most talented, kind, loving, and wonderful individuals I could ever ask to know! I am so excited to see them all again, and although it sort of feels like laying on a bed of cacti saying goodbye, I know I'll be reunited soon enough :)

Oh goodness, where to even begin! The last month has literally been the most jam-packed, yet life changing month of my life. I have seen all my friends put their talents together for an amazing cause, which is going to surface in February- an amazing opportunity for me to use my art for the good of others. I have finally been reunited with my friends from all over the world at the L.A. Flickr Gathering, hosted by the inspiring and selfless David Talley (to see images from everyone at the gathering, check out this group: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/2152399@N21/
I am now at a place of reflection for the next few days where I literally feel like a shipwrecked lover. So much has happened in such a short time that I've been left spinning, clinging to those around me with a heavy heart, wondering how so much good could happen to me, while so much tragedy exists in the world. I truly feel blessed beyond my years, and cannot wait to see where the next year takes me and all of my friends.
When Autumn Was Spirited Away

It is a strange time of year when the leaves finally all drift to the heavens. Things seem different, yet really not much has changed. It always shocks me how a slight change in the weather and a little less sun can drastically affect us! I feel like a part of my spirit drifts away with those leaves. I sure do miss summer, but I am ready to embrace the joys that winter does hold. I have finally accepted it I believe...

I am so happy with this self portrait btw, I haven't taken one in ages but HAD to get out and shoot one :P This one was inspired by Pocahontas haha...
