“The home to everyone is to him his castle and fortress, as well for his defence against injury and violence, as for his repose” - Edward Coke

Originally built in the 12th century, Boechout Castle is located within the grounds of the National Botanic Gardens of Belgium in Meise, north of Brussels. The oldest part is the square tower dating back to the 14th century. King Leopold II bought the castle in 1879 for his sister Charlotte, who lived there until her death. Today the castle falls under property of the Belgian state, and is used for conferences and exhibitions.
