Get Pushed - Round 17.2

iPlaid34 (sooooo busy - catching up soon!) posted a photo:

Create a tiny little world - or Tilt-Shift!

For this round of "Get Pushed," I was paired with the photographically talented Stacie - who probably was here at some point. Her challenge to me was to "create a tiny little world" in photoshop - so basically a tilt-shift image.

Well, this was the challenging part...I didn't really have much of an opportunity to find a place with the right vantage point to create a tilt-shift image. This shot was done off a bridge in Peoria and I'm not 100% satisfied with it. I know that I've done better TS images in the past, but as far as subjects go, this was all I had to work with.

You're probably wondering why this is 17.2 - well as we were discussing our challenge, we determined that we live in relative proximity to each other. I was going to be passing nearby where she lives this past weekend, so I thought we could try to shoot the same subject in our own style. To see that image, click here!

Thanks for a fun challenge Stacie - I hope we virtually cross paths again!

A shot I captured on a trip to NY with my dad a few years ago. We saw a Yankees and a Mets game before both stadiums were torn down. I had a couple other things to visit while we were there including the Brooklyn Bridge, Coney Island, Grey's Papaya (it's official, Chicago Hot Dogs are better), and the subway. It was a really cool trip and I definitely need to get back and see more sites.

I have to shoot WHAT? - Week 3

iPlaid34 (sooooo busy - catching up soon!) posted a photo:

Black and White

The theme for this week's IHTSW? challenge is black and white. So I thought about this all week and debated what I wanted to shoot. I knew that it was going to snow late in the week, so I waited until today and visited a bunch of my favorite spots. Those that followed my 2011 - 365 will definitely recognize this location. It's the old railroad bridge over the Fox River in Carpentersville. It's pretty much my favorite place to shoot and I've taken many portrait clients there because it's so photogenic. Click here for a colorful photo from the fall!

With this week being black and white, I wanted it to look as close to film as I could, without shooting film. I spent a lot of time in the darkroom back in college and one of my signatures was leaving a bit of the film sprocket edges on my prints. So, I used some post processing to add a frame to this image. I think it looks pretty close!

I spent a lot of time in the darkroom back in college and one of my signatures was leaving a bit of the film sprocket edges on my prints. So, I used some post processing to add a frame to this image. I think it looks pretty close!

Bridge to nowhere...

It's amazing the colors you can see when you shoot at sunrise! I decided to capture a few shots this morning on the way to work and this is the result! This is my.favorite.place.to.photograph. It's this old railroad bridge in Carpentersville, IL. I've done my own engagement shots there, other couples' engagement shots, some wedding shots and some modeling shots here. The area is just fantastic for photography. This is also where I see the eagles in the winter.

There are just so many great shots today, but this will have to do for now. It's Monday night and "all my rowdy friends are comin' over" - ok, so maybe they're not. Poor Hank. But it is Monday Night Football and the Bears are playing, so I've gotta run for now! Go Bears!

Bryan and Lyana Engagement Shoot

How cute is this - they were dancing on the bridge! (yes, it's my favorite bridge that I've shot about a million times, but I.LOVE.THIS.BRIDGE!) They were great to work with and I didn't even tell them to do this. I think people really relax when the cameraman is a ways off...thank goodness for my 70-200! It really allows me to get right in on the action without being intrusive. Thanks for a great shoot guys!

Bridge over the river Fox

I've decided that I'm going to put this d7000 through it's paces and test out what she can do. Tonight just happened to spur that on a bit. We went out to dinner for a friend's birthday and I hadn't taken a shot (that I liked) yet. So, on the way home, I pulled over to my favorite railroad bridge and lowered the shutter to 10 seconds. (This is about 10 miles upriver from last night's shots) I set the camera on a picnic table and hit the shutter. This is the result. The only ambient light was about 100 yards away in the parking lot. I left it at ISO 200 too.

This thing is KILLER! I mean, I love my d300, but the power this little d7000 packs is nothing short of amazing. When I get out near my mom's house one weekend (BFI), I'm going to shoot in complete darkness with a long shutter and see what happens (hopefully some star movement, etc...)

So - there you go! This looked much better in b/w - but I do have another on the way that I'll upload soon!
