This week I blended the cracked surface of a dry lake bed with a beautiful springtime flower, the golden poppy. This tells the story of the current drought in California in a time when spring should bring more rainfall.

I captured this image in early spring along the Kern River. I wish this title of the image was a little more pronounced: the river and the road converge side by side in the left middle of the image. Water levels are especially low this year revealing the smooth rocks in the riverbed.

This still remains one of my favorite flowers to photograph. This time I tried using a lake as the background to give the white glow or mist between the flowers with a really shallow depth of field.

Please view on black background ("L").

This is the first image posted from my Mamiya 645 medium format film camera. I also developed the negative for the first time in my own dark room.

Still more work but at least I can show the beginning of more images to come using this technique.
