Sunset Rock Lake

For a single guy, I see a lot of romantic sunsets every year. This evening was quite special though; the sunset came in strong with rain clouds looming to the east. I had never photographed that particular kind of light before.

I wrote down some thoughts on the relationship between photography and time perception a couple of weeks ago. See my Facebook page if you're interested.

I photographed this model yesterday and post-processed this shot as soon as I got home. Nothing special about it per se; I just grabbed one good photo among countless others. We spent about five hours walking around, taking photos here and there, and it's nice to give people a chance too. As you probably know, I typically do landscapes, and landscape photography is a great influence on how I do people.

I remarked that she looked like The Little Mermaid here, as in the sculpture by H. C. Andersen. We were nowhere near the sea however; this was taken in a cemetary.

You should of course check out her Facebook page!

A Spooky Church

I hadn't tried this method of post-processing before, but I liked the end result in spite of the gradient banding (which I tend to be sensitive to). It gave the church a spooky sense to it, and it is kind of spooky, located on top of a mountain with its steep naked walls.
I kept wandering down the dirt road with my camera on its tripod, and I was properly rewarded with the best photowalk of the entire year. Well, at least one of the best. It's difficult to rank creativity, and why should you? It's just hard not to. Anyway, I dove to the bottom of my digital toolbox for this shot, and I resurfaced with an infrared filter in mind. It worked out neat, I think.

This gothic revival church was designed by Helgo Zettervall and stood finished in 1892. The exterior is quite impressive but the interior left me disappointed, mostly because the lack of height. What's the point of erecting a great gothic building if the nave isn't reaching for the sky? Several chandeliers hung from the cealing as well, further diminishing the sense of height. Also note the lack of cross-ribbed vaulting except for in the apse.

What's your view on creativity by the way? I wrote a couple of sentences about it on my Facebook page the other day.

This is one of a few couple of photos that I could work with.

This is usually the kind of subject you photograph when you're after something else, and decides to turn around to see what's behind your back. The car and the tree seemed to resonate well with the lower lines of the bridge; the composition just felt right.
