I was so happy to see that the carousel house at Asbury Park is still standing and was not badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy. It is one of my favorite buildings and I think I take the exact same photo every time I go there! But, I've decided it looks best in Black and white!

My first trip to the beach this year...not exactly a "lie in the sun and go swimming" kind of day, but it still felt good to feel the sun and see the ocean. I did stick my feet into the water and all I can tell you is... it was PAINFUL! Way too cold. This was also the first time that I have been to the beach since Hurricane Sandy and it was sad to see the damage, but good to see all the rebuilding going on. Looking forward to many more day trips!

Disney's Animal Kingdom

I just returned from a week in Florida with my daughter. We did all of the Disney parks and I have decided that Animal Kingdom was my favorite. I only wish I had brought my good camera in with me instead of my little point and shoot. (Maybe next time!) One of my favorite things (besides the monkeys and the bats!) was the colorful banners and flags that hung in the land of Asia. In some Asian traditions, people would hang flags up with pictures of their prayer requests so the wind could carry their prayers to God. They also tied bells in the trees when their prayers were answered.

Ok, you know the rest! A little snow and cold weather doesn't stop the die hard flea marketeers!! Actually, it warmed up to the 40s, so it wasn't too bad for this annual January flea market. I was amazed at how many people were there. It really is a "man's flea market" with lots of tools and engines and such things, but I did manage to find a brand new grow light for $10 and am now planning to start my own plants from seed for my garden this year. The best part, though... was the FREE HOBO STEW!! We brought our tin cans and had them filled to the top with steaming hot Hobo Stew! You could also grab a stick and a hot dog and cook it over the bonfire they had going! Such fun. Unfortunately....stupid me... I charged my camera battery last night, but never plugged the charger in, so when I got there I was able to squeeze out 9 shots before the battery was totally dead. How disappointing, because this would have been such a fun place to take pictures! I had to walk around framing shots with my eye and wishing my camera hadn't died. Someday maybe I will learn and carry a fully charged back up battery... someday. : (

Well, it seems that 2013 is starting out pretty much like all of 2012... I am not getting anything done and not taking or posting as many photos as I would like. Although, I did start a diet and am on DAY 6 so far without cheating... and I did pull out some fabrics to work on some Valentine's crafts today... so there is some hope, at least.

I did manage to capture my boys, Zappy and Pedro snuggling on the couch again. They always make me smile!! Sending warm wishes your way....

Jsut throwing up a quick picture to try to get back in the habit of "flickring"! Actually... this is for you Cindy Lou.... showing off some of my flea market finds.... haha!! And to make Mary Lou jealous as well!! My centerpiece bouquet of arrows collected at the flea market in my $2 vase. The wreath on the wall... a $3 find. And the granny square afghan... a true find in GREEN!! haha! Granny Square afghans are my latest obsession. I can hardly walk by one without buying it. There's just something about them...so cozy and homey! And I know that someday I will come up with a great project that requires a granny square afghan as the main ingredient (please let this ispiration come soon... I have MANY waiting in the wings!) ; ) I have a few days off this coming week... planning an outing with Thruthelookingglass! YEY!! It's going to be a GOOD week!!

Ok, so I am supposed to be cleaning up for Christmas, but instead it's been pretty much a day in the life of the poster child for ADD (me!). I have tried on vintage clothes that I bought at flea markets, getting stuck in one dress for several hours because the zipper got stuck, have looked through many boxes of treasures, glued broken things back together, flipped through books and magazines, crammed old quilts, chenille spreads and various other fabric pieces into space bags, ate lots of junk food, drank iced coffee,and took this photo. The end result is pretty much that the room I was working in all day doesn't look much different than when I started this morning. It might even look worse. What a surprise!

But anyway...how cool is this big jar of shells and sea glass? It is reserved for you and I, Susan! The next warmish day after the holidays we are going to head to the beach and gather up driftwood. (Driftwood isn't seasonal is it? It will still be out there now, right?) Then we are going to make those cool beach signs like the one in your house that I love so much, Deal?!! Don't forget!!! (or you can forget...but I am going to remind you!) And you better agree to this because the alternative is to take a photo workshop to photograph the northern lights...and that costs about $3K. I would have to sell a kidney in order to do that, so lets go with Plan A! (My God... I just wrote a novel here....sorry Flickrites!)

This single leaf held on through Super Storm Sandy and our first snow storm. I guess maybe some are just a bit more determined than others!
I am trying to hang tough as well, heading into the "home stretch" toward the holidays in the retail world. Some days, believe me, it's not easy, but on other days there are some amazing customers that actually are fun, make me laugh, and help us get through the tough times with "those customers" that we'd rather not talk about....ugh!!! So, if you are out shopping today...smile at a sales person and wish them a good day and maybe even pick something up off the floor that some other inconsiderate customer left behind.... I guarantee it will make someone's day!

So...here, is the story behind this shot... yesterday I had the day off and decided that it was time to clean out my ridiculously packed and messy closet. I started pulling stuff out of the closet and separating it into piles and before long I forgot what each pile was, so I decided to assign boxes to each pile. I went downstairs and pulled out boxes, printed signs for each box and stapled them on (which my son found to be absolutely crazy that I took the time to do this instead of just writing on the box.... hey, I was cleaning.... procrastination of ANY kind was a welcome distraction!) Oh...and you probably can't tell from this photo because you can't actually see the box marked GARBAGE, but that box is substantially smaller than the KEEP, DONATE and CRAFTS box, because I find it almost impossible to throw anything away, which is why the closet looks the way it does to begin with! (yes... it is the hoarder in me!)
Anyway....once I had my boxes set up and was ready to go back to the closet, the phone rang, so I spent a few minutes talking to my daughter. When I was off the phone, I went back to get my boxes and this is what I found!!
hahaha...Zappycat, who had obviously chosen the correct box!! YES! he is a keeper! I love him! <3 This definitely made my day! And today will be DAY #2 in the evil closet. I'm not done yet because I generally work in what I call "If you give a moose a muffin" style. For those of you that know that children's book.... you know what I am talking about! So...wish me luck... I'll need it!!

What a difference a week makes! I took this last week after our first snow. Today it is supposed to be near 70 degrees! Snow, obviously, is all gone! The fog is still there and I am tempted to grab my camera and go out and try to get a shot like this again. I want to work on getting the flying geese into better focus. Thinking I definitely need to try a tripod!

I shot this last weekend at a farm stand that was extensively decorated for Halloween. The skull with the blinking red eyes was suspended from a tree and was just so cool! I just may have to go back there again and spend more time. I kind of just ran through there while picking up apple cider donuts! Yes, I must go back!!

Dayna came home after her soccer game Saturday and we carved pumpkins on Sunday afternoon! It was the first time I have carved a pumpkin in years and I forgot how much fun it was! She carved the monster on the left and I told her I was going to carve an owl on mine, so she suggested the Rowan Prof, their owl mascot... and so that's what I did! How cool are these?!!

soon I will be headed out to enjoy a beautiful fall day and hopefully get some great colorful fall shots, but for now, I will share the last of the color from my garden....again from last weekend's killing frost, the last of my zinnias, my favorite flowers, before they turned all brown. At least we still have colorful tress for a bit before everything turned a dull brown. *sigh* I will miss these colorful garden friends!

Last weekend's frost marked the end of my garden. The cosmos had still been blooming, but now everything is brown. I really enjoyed all of my flowers. Next year will be even better!

I'm not sure, but maybe, just maybe, I have finally found the right settings for getting good pictures at a soccer game!! At least for this particular game... I had to delete far fewer photos than usual and focus was pretty good on most of them. This is my Dayna (in brown and yellow) in a NJAC college soccer game, Rowan vs. Ramapo. A miserable rainy morning gave way to a beautiful fall afternoon, perfect for soccer! Another win for the Rowan womens team....a perfect day!

This may be one of the last bouquets that I pick from my garden this year. Many of the flowers are pretty much done now, but it was a good year. I've enjoyed many beautiful bouquets. I bought this kind of beaten up pewter vase at the flea market last week and I love it... it has a frog built right into it and makes arranging the flowers (which I am not very good at!) so much easier. (Gotta love the flea market!) Off to soccer now....enjoy your weekend and this beautiful weather!

A shot taken on Saturday when it was hot and sunny.... no sun today and I am off to work (ugh...on Labor Day). Unfortunately, what I couldn't capture was the numerous spider webs glistening in the tress, one after another at all angles. Wish I could have, it was so cool....as long as those spiders were out of sight!! Happy Labor Day to all my Flickr friends! Hope you aren't working, too!

Decided to ditch all of my plans for housecleaning today because the weather was so gorgeous and spend the day with a friend. We hit the road without a plan and had the BEST day ever! We took pictures, ate hot dogs and pie, stopped at a flea market and a barn sale and picked up some treasures, filled the back of my car with perennials that a garden shop threw away (yey! Free perennial garden!!) and ended up at the Delaware Water Gap and watched the people putting in and taking out their tubes, canoes, rafts and kayaks. A perfect day with a good friend. This was my favorite photo of the day.... love the colorful kayaks and the shallow water exposing the river rocks beneath! The housecleaning can wait.... maybe even another day or two....Happy Labor Day weekend (minus the LABOR!!) : )

A bumble bee and what I thought was a lightning bug at the time, but now I'm not sure, on loosestrife growing down near the river at my sister's summer place. Bumblebees are one of my favorite subjects....so cute....they look like they are wearing furry little striped jackets! : )
