The doctor put this long sock-like tube on my leg, and covered it with gauze.

Then they wrapped it with another material, which reacts to water by hardening to a solid shell that will hold my ankle in place for the next three weeks or so.

Last night I went jogging, when a light drizzle started to come down. About three blocks from my house I slipped, and my right ankle bent in a most unnatural way. I limped home as best I could, but by the time I plodded into the shower it was obvious I was going to need medical attention. Fortunately my brother was nearby, and he drove me to the emergency room.

When I got there, I was asked to wait while a doctor was fetched (I inconveniently hurt myself during dinnertime). I was eventually shown to the x-ray room.

Voila!

My life is going to be very weird for the next three weeks; small things that require walking will be difficult, and big things pretty much impossible. Certainly no jogging for a while.

Service at the hospital was so-so. Carlos, a male nurse, was an exception -- he went out of his way to try to make me feel better, by telling jokes, etc.

I don't know much about this stuff, but it seems that the x-ray operator did a half-assed job. If the problem is in the ankle, why did he take the x-ray so high up the leg? (Half of the ankle is off-frame on the left image.)
