Most of the time, at least some of the kitties will turn up their noses at the canned food, but here they were all in agreement that dinner was delicious. You could suspect they didn't get any food for days the way they're snarfing this down. A rare sight indeed. Any cat owners out there who want to guess what's in their bowls? *LOL*

To whichever small animal decided to crawl inside the basement walls: You know your days are numbered, right? Wanna come out and play with the kitties? Last morning they caught a mouse in the kitchen cabinets. This one sounds a bit too big for a mouse though, so maybe another stupid squirrel? They've chased one through the house not too long ago. I'll have to take a walk around the house one of these days and thoroughly check for entry holes. The cats love the entertainment though.

Update: It was a mouse, and it has been caught. Kimba presented it to me about 45 minutes after this picture was taken.

Every time the cats catch something in their enclosure, they have to bring it upstairs into the kitchen or living room to proudly present it to me. ~sigh~ This time, it was a little shrew and it was still alive. After releasing it in the kitchen, they chased it under the fridge. I had almost given up hope to catch it alive, but half an hour later they had it cornered again and I could catch it and release it outside. I think they were upset with me for taking their squeaky toy away.

And where do I sleep?

2013 Calendars

I was trying to take a few pictures of the 2013 calendars I made for fundraisers and gifts, and as soon as I put them down on the floor, I had four kitties all over them. I only got two pictures before I had to give up and take them away again because Mikesch actually started chewing on them. Argh!

I used to have my calendars printed at QOOP, but they went out of business this summer, so I had this batch done at Lulu. The print quality seems comparable, but the writing on the actual calendar pages is a bit smaller and harder to read from across the room. The wiring was backwards on my first orders so that the calendars would fall apart when hung on the wall, but they replaced them at no charge when I complained.

Training Your Cats 101

Today's lesson: How to train your cats to share your bed with you.
Items needed: Bed (should be at least full or queen size), cats, soft fleece throw
Instructions: Place the fleece throw over half of your bed. Cats will gather onto it, leaving the other half of the bed for you to sleep in. They will think this is great.
Conclusion: For best results, rig it so your cats will think that it was all their idea and the best new discovery since canned tuna.

Saw the "scanography" entry on the Flickr blog and thought: "Hey, I've got one, too!" I did a few "cat scans" a couple years ago. None of them wanted to sit still until scanned, so the results were all awfully blurry and somewhat disjointed. *LOL* This one is of Mikesch's hind feet. Ah, all the fun you can have with a scanner!

Mikesch wanted to help me around the yard today. He thought the apples smelled interesting. I bet many of them had aromas of groundhog, squirrel and rabbit all over them.

New Kitty Game

Katie loves to seek out the highest perches in the house. The closer to the ceiling, the better. Mikesch looked like he would've liked to try to get up there, too, but at over twice Katie's weight he's probably too heavy to jump that high.

The cats are enjoying the spring weather any chance they get. Mikesch is begging to go outside every time I go near the basement door. They have their little outdoors enclosure, but he wants to go for a walk in the yard on his leash. Sometimes he acts like a dog masquerading as a cat! He isn't as good at playing fetch as Katie though.
