On our drive through the beautiful countryside north west of Les Vans, we stopped at this beautiful spot looking down the Thines valley for our picnic lunch.

This is our daughter admiring the scenery. The predominant tree in the valley was chestnut - chestnut flour was for sale in the local markets.

The lady in the Les Vans tourist office sketched out a route to the north west of the town taking in beautiful scenery and lovely villages en route. These are some of the things we saw on our drive.

Ashdown Forest is in the Weald of Sussex. There aren't all that many trees, it's mainly heathland. It's a forest in the sense that it was an old Medieval hunting forest.
