Into to the Ocean

I keep wondering how the pier appears to be when the tide is in ever since I visited this place a week ago. So here I am at high tide before the sunset... It's exactly like what I anticipate, just much more windy with stronger water coming over! :)

Bamboo Raft on Shore

This image was captured in the evening before Typhoon TEMBIN made landfall in Pingtung, Taiwan. With strong winds, bamboo rafts were all floating back and forth in the water. This particular raft got a chance to rest at ease at the shoreline on the ebb which made an interesting contrast to the whole scene!

Although TEMBIN already headed out to Taiwan Strait shortly after its landfall, there is possibility for TEMBIN to return back to Taiwan.... :-(

In my memory, it's something more like fishy, salty, burning, and damp smell...
But surprisingly it's quite tranquil, soft, refreshing and pleasing!

Summer Sunset @ Taipei, Taiwan

Thank you Sharleen Chao for showing me this spot to capture the beautiful sunset in Taipei, my hometown.

I consider myself very lucky to catch this sunset the other day! First, I was locked out with no access to my camera gears. My husband had to come back urgently to save me. We therefore were kind of late to leave for this popular shooting spot. When we got there about one hour prior to sunset, a bunch of tripods were already set. We still managed to find a spot to settle down and enjoyed our late afternoon!

I particularly love the fast drifting clouds due to a predicted typhoon and the sun lighting up the city before sunset. I had to manually blend the images in Photoshop CS6 because of the high-dynamic-range nature of the scene!

The Ocean Waves At Night

This is my first time trying to do photo collage. I first think of a theme, find something that is associated to my theme, shoot it, and then cut and paste in Photoshop (or cut and paste the real photos if I prefer).

I'm always fond of ocean. I've been watching ocean waves during day time in Pacific Northwest coasts, but never got the chance to stand in front of the Ocean during night time. Therefore, my theme comes to me : The Ocean waves at night! Lucky enough, I found our kitchen knifes the patterns on the blade are alike those of the waves. Now I've got the object I want to shoot. The rest is the execution : to shoot and to cut and paste my individual photographs into the image in my mind.

The sky comes from the shooting of blue colored tissue sheet, and the moon (if it is still recognizable to you...) is just an empty hole as a matter of fact!

How to exercise our imagination is an interesting topic which I want to learn and explosre more... Who knows, maybe I'll do more cut-and-paste photo collage in the future! :)

Feel Like Boating?

I haven't been out shooting enough lately... This is one of the sunset moments I enjoyed when strolling in False Creek. I love particularly the stillness of the water and how the clouds are reflected on water! :)

This one is taken in early June. I remembered when I took this shot, a lot of joggers, runners and dog walkers passed by the scene. They all had one thing in common... They all looked at me befuddled! Oh well, what can I say... Except I just love moody days sometimes!! :)

Sunset Watching, New York city II/II

Just got back from a short trip to New York and Chicago. This shot and the previous one are taken in a cloudy evening, around 20 minutes before sunset. Manhattan looks a bit softer than usual in such a soft and overcast lighting and I do think it kind of interesting to capture a different look of the City view!

Both shots are sunset watching from a slightly different angle. I love how people react differently when appreciating sunset with friends... Maybe someone behind me is also trying to capture me watching sunset too! :-)

Just got back from a short trip to New York and Chicago. This shot and the following are taken in a cloudy evening, around 20 minutes before sunset. Manhattan looks a bit softer than usual in such a soft and overcast lighting and I do think it kind of interesting to capture a different look of the City view!

I quite enjoyed the moment watching people and sunset from a distance although I cannot help but guess what's their conversation like.... :)

Is It Gonna Rain Today?

This is the question I ask myself almost every morning when I get up. Therefore, I decide to add the story to the scene when practicing panoramic shots in Coal Harbour the other day. The sky is perfect for this script, don't you think? :)

It's a slightly more than 180-degree panorama which is shot in 4 rows. I forgot to switch the W/B from Auto to Cloudy when shooting, but it seems Ok to me... I just stitched the images in Photoshop with manual adjustment in certain areas.

Special thanks to my friend Yun to act the "weather man" for me!

A Dark Afternoon

Weather in Vancouver can be so unpredictable. Rains, fogs, and winds are coming and going at their own paces. Only the paces remain mysteries to me. I was in Stanley Park between two rains the other day and the city look kept changing with cloud drifting by. After the rolling clouds passed through, the sky went back to the lifeless grey again, like most of the recent days, and it eventually started to rain!

I'm quite happy that I caught this dark moment, a crack of the gray afternoon! :)

I was able to hop off the Seawall at low tide to get closer to the water front yesterday afternoon when I took a walk in Stanley Park... The view was actually quite amazing between the rains with the clouds rolling over and sunlight on and off. :)

Wooden Pier @ Ambleside

We went to Ambleside beach the other day and I quite liked it, so yesterday I decided to extend my walk along the Seawalk trail from the beach westwards to the rocky beach of Dundarave. It's a nice and warm Sunday afternoon where a lot of people enjoyed the last bit of weekend in the waterfront just like myself.

When I walked back to the parking lot, I noticed the tide was out and people were gathering on the Fishing Pier trying their luck to fish and crab off the dock. As for me, I like it better just to take a seat on the beach and watch the tide coming and going! :)
